Paul McCloskey vs. Manuel Perez, 12 rounds @ light welterweight

 

Round 1

McCloskey is holding Perez out with the right jab, and showing off defensively with exaggerated ducking and arm-dangling. Perez gets in an odd left hook stepping inside as McCloskey pivots away from the shots, but it's mostly McCloskey carrying the action with his jab.

Round 2

McCloskey is extending the right jab and rowing the air over Perez's head. Perez tries to weave his way in while leaned forward and ducking the jab, but he isn't able to get close as McCloskey keeps his feet moving and his body rolled up and skewed to the side. Perez is trying to pressure him but not cutting the distance. McCloskey is landing precious few of his jabs, but enough to collect another point.

Round 3

McCloskey is flinging the right jab out from long range, keeping plenty of distance between himself and Perez. A few attempted slashes at the body by Perez with the left hand, but he knows he's too far out and isn't committing to them. McCloskey is being very evasive, ignoring the boos of the crowd. All McCloskey with the long right jab, landing very little but not letting Perez near enough to answer back with anything. A few hacks to the body by Perez as he marches in, with McCloskey turning to expose his side and back before stepping off. Lots of jabs by McCloskey, catching Perez on the face coming in. Now a southpaw 1-2, and a right hook by McCloskey, getting more comfortable throwing from a bit closer.

Round 4

McCloskey is peppering the jab through Perez's guard and increasing his output with the left cross as Perez slides forward. Perez is keeping his back arched and arms laid up against his face tightly, putting in a few shots as McCloskey lingers closer and works the right hook to the body. McCloskey is touched with a few hair-brushing left hooks and rights over the top, but rolling with everything and keeping that jab on Perez's face.

Round 5

McCloskey is staying dangerously close to Perez, jabbing over his head and throwing wild left hands over the top. Perez is no better with his accuracy, winging out short punches and not reaching as he needs to with McCloskey still moving and leaning readily between his own shots. McCloskey is still touching Perez with the jab despite the wildness of his power punches. Perez is getting close with his right hand but gets rocked back with a right upper-hook.

Round 6

McCloskey is pushing the jab now and loading up on power punches, a bit sloppy. Perez is getting closer and finding a home for his left hook as McCloskey stands in. Volleys down the middle by McCloskey, caught on the gloves. Perez is marching in and dropping his fists on McCloskey while keeping his guard up high during the downtime.
