Damn never seen that footage before even in old age Dempsey was still a beast. Tyson seems quite knowledgable, I know him and Cus used to watch all the old fighters, might check out other episodes of this show. Thanks for the post :good.
here is more of the fight...dempsey looks slower in the footage than he was in his prime for sure...however....he is def going hard and punching for real. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCQ0eqQTL74[/ame]
Powerful for a 45 year old man retired for 13 years, but at his best on film in REAL time his left hook was fast and dynamic needing 6''inches to ko an opponent he could hit...The film of the Willard bout doesn't do Dempsey justice as it was cranked by a hand camera losing frames and not in real time. An American boxing historian revamped that film in "real" time and was astonished how destructive Dempsey looked in spite of having to punch "up" to reach the giant Willard's chin...When an opponent is your size you train to throw straight punches coming from your shoulders and get maximum leverage aiming straight at your foe's head...Louis and Dempsey were P4P the most destuctive heavyweights combining speed and dexterity along with power...
a bit off topic but its really ironic,Mike Tyson talking about past greats coming back from long layoffs to try and reclaim past glories. Dempsey knocked the mofo right through the ring
