Soto's lost almost as many times as Beauchamp has fought.

He was a top-rated straw for a long time, however.

    Round 1

Beauchamp is jabbing and hooking on the front foot as Soto skips back and catches shots on his forearms. Beauchamp is able to whip a few jabs through the gloves, backhanding them with a snap. The hooks are primarily meant to keep Soto from circling too quickly out of jabbing range, just brushing shots. Soto isn't firing much back, and seems to be a little fleshy up at super fly as he jogs away with some jiggle in his back and sides.

    10-9 Beauchamp

Beauchamp (pronounced "Byoo-champ", apparently - not the more Francophone style of "Bo-shahm" that you'd expect) is having to deal with a lot of negativity in there. He's in danger of losing the fans, who cheered him loudly during the intros but are getting restless.

Soto is completely disinterested in engaging tonight. Run, run, grab, grab. :dead

    Round 2

Beauchamp keeps coming forward and jabbing high as Soto trots away with his hands up. Beauchamp starts to drop down and try to dig hooks to the body but can't skewer Soto as he keeps scissoring his legs and staying off the ropes. Zero offense from Soto. Beauchamp is content to follow him around tossing jabs into his high guard and occasionally going for hooks and uppercut combos to the body. In the final minute Soto begins to chuck right hand counters over Beauchamp's body shots while backing up, but there's little on them.

    10-9 Beauchamp

    20-18 Beauchamp

    Round 3

Beauchamp is tossing hooks and right hands over the top as Soto dances away, then parachutes inside with arms crossed over his head to lean against Beauchamp and tie up. Beauchamp tags Soto on the way out with a straight right to the jaw and tries to slap the body with a few wide hooks. Soto stands his ground a moment and delivers a few body shots, but is quickly sent into reverse by the jab of the much taller Beauchamp. Soto slaps out an overhand right to Beauchamp's left shoulder and continues to backpedal. Beauchamp tries to crowd him into a corner and Soto dives in to hold. Jabs and axing rights by Beauchamp pushing Soto to the ropes. Soto leaps forward and grabs Beauchamp, spinning his way to the middle of the ring where he continues to run.

    10-9 Beauchamp

    30-27 Beauchamp

    Round 4

Beauchamp is jabbing straight and high, then quickly squatting and tossing long hooks to the body as Soto backs up into a corner. Soto goes to the body with a spray of messy uppercuts to get out, and hits Beauchamp low. Beauchamp is given a second to recover. Soto keeps throwing wild uppers when the action resumes. Beauchamp leans side to side to evade most of them and presses forward with jabs and straight rights. Soto is backed up to the ropes, where he tosses a few defensive jabs and walks down their length to the corner. Once there, he leaps forward with his forearm turned horizontally to use as a riot shield en route to a clinch. Beauchamp keeps picking him off on the outside with his jab. Soto covers up as Beauchamp delivers a combo to the body and then chops down with a right to his back. Soto fights his way to the middle of the ring, up on his toes, with a series of high-rising punches.

    10-9 Beauchamp

    40-36 Beauchamp

    Soto quit on his stool.

A gutless end to a gutless performance.

Note: this guy (Omar "El Pastor" Soto) is not to be confused with Omar "Lobito" Soto of Mexico, who campaigns down in the same divisional range and also suffers from 'always the bridesmaid' syndrome but is actually a legitimate contender.

Beauchamp is interviewed in the ring, with his young daughter at his side.

    He improves to 10-0-1 (5).

He doesn't seem overtly thrilled with how tonight went. Soto didn't give him much to work with.

    At day's end, a W is a W. :conf

Tirado has come a long way to challenge Rodriguez - both geographically, from Ecuador...and moving all the way up from super flyweight!
