Jose Ramirez vs. Antonio Martinez, 4 rounds @ light welterweight

 

Ramirez fought at the Olympics, on Team USA.

 

Round 1

Ramirez lays into Martinez with big hooks to the body. Martinez backs up to the ropes and covers his face. Ramirez puts out a stiff jab and hooks the body, crisp and fast. Martinez backs straight up, eating jabs penetrating through his guard. Big left hook above the belt by Ramirez. Martinez leans in against him and swipes a hook at the body, missing. Body combination by Ramirez. Big whipping right on the top of the trunks by Ramirez. Martinez backs up and sweeps out a right hand, missing high. Hard combination by Ramirez, planting a straight right on Martinez's face and knocking him into the ropes. Body shots by Ramirez pressing in. Another flush right hand by Ramirez.

Round 2

Lazy jab by Martinez. Several left hooks with increasing urgency and velocity by Ramirez. Martinez pushes into him and ricochets back toward the ropes. Hard triple jab between the gloves by Ramirez. 1-1-2, knocking Martinez against the ropes. Hard hooking right to the body by Ramirez. Martinez paws a left jab coming off the ropes, then goes down on a very delayed reaction to Ramirez's body shot. Ramirez jumps on Martinez when he gets up, landing jabs, rights and hooks. Ramirez gets a bit messy, shots careening off the side of Martinez's head as he bows forward. Body shots by Ramirez. Hard jab by Ramirez. Martinez tries to land an uppercut coming off the ropes and eats a big counter left hook across the face. Hard rights by Ramirez. Martinez lurches in against him and holds, using Ramirez to stay upright. Ramirez tries bashing down with the right but gets his arm caught and held. Big left hook by Ramirez as Martinez backs up. Flush right hand lead by Ramirez. Martinez against falls drunkenly in against him.

Round 3

Ramirez is hitting Martinez with a hard 1-2 to the body. Left hooks dropped down as Martinez stays transfixed on the ropes. Looping right on the other side. Ramirez is enjoying target practice as Martinez keeps his fists glued to his face but leaves a large swath of his torso open. A pair of hard rights curled in to the body by Ramirez, and a left hook on the other side. Ramirez keeps cutting away on Martinez, mixing incisive left and right hooks to head and body. Martinez tries jabbing to freedom when trapped on the ropes, turning his body away while throwing. Martinez is tired, arms hanging low and huffing out exhalations through his mouth. Powerful combination to the body by Ramirez, finishing with a left hook on the diaphragm.

I'm ****ing knackered. :tired Left for the boxing gym seventeen hours ago, and have been either watching it/doing it/in transit ever since.

...and will be turning in for a scant three hours' catnap after this, before Toney vs. Browne, followed by a full day of family activities. :!:

Round 4

Ramirez is slipping Martinez's jabs coming forward, lighting him up with straight blasts to the body. Martinez dances around with his gloves clenched tightly against his face, pawing out jabs. Ramirez throws some wild shots up from the hip coming forward, missing or getting blocked. Martinez stands stock still on the ropes as Ramirez tees off with several very fast straight punches. A few get through and rattle Martinez, and he moves to his left. Double jab into the guard by Ramirez. Long jab by Ramirez, falling short. Another one, wide. Martinez finds safety on the ropes, leaning back into them and firing back as Ramirez closes in to finish him off before the final bell. Martinez survives.

Round 1

Beltran comes forward and ducks a slapped hook from Rodriguez. Beltran jabs the body a bit and steps outside. Beltran is wasting nothing, very economical. Rodriguez doubles a jab up at Beltran, shoring up on his chest. Beltran taps his gloves together and sways to his left while putting up a jab. Right hand over the top by Beltran, ducked. Clinch. Rodriguez is pushed back from a Beltran jab on the mouth and circles left missing his own jab. Rodriguez keeps his lead toe pushed in next to Beltran's heel, staying inside his hooking range (but theoretically open to be toppled over with one if Beltran could lean back and get purchase on it). Right to the body by Rodriguez falling in.
