David Sanchez vs. Luis Carlos Leon, 10 rounds @ super flyweight

 

Round 1

Sanchez leans in and lowers his head, letting Leon's looping rights slide past his ear. Short uppercuts by Sanchez. Leon folds both arms up against his face and drapes himself over an invisible clothesline, swaying from side to side and throwing southpaw 1-2s from odd angles. Sanchez keeps turning and letting shots slide off his back and the sides of his skull, countering with shovel combos from body to head.

Sanchez is jabbing in as Leon continues his serpentine motions, butt out in the air, using lots of stuttering footwork. Big combinations to the body by Sanchez, pushing Leon back. Sanchez drops a jab on Leon's cheek as he squats low. Big hook combo mounted by Leon, standing his ground and catching Sanchez with a few on the jaw at close range, but Sanchez leans in and rolls with them to keep pressing in and laying it on, eager to receive to give.

Round 3

Leon doesn't answer the bell. His corner is pleading frantically with the referee, stalling for time. Leon has an inscrutable look on his face. He isn't rising off his stool. The ref begins to give an eight count while Leon is still on his stool. That's it, over. Weird. Sanchez celebrates, a bit confused but not looking a gift horse in the mouth.

Oh, OK. Leon injured his shoulder, apparently.

It seems his corner was trying to talk him into continuing, to which he was indifferent. The ref was basically like "OK guys, WTF, is he answering the bell or not" and the answer to his question & count was a passive no.

 

Yeah, it's pretty swollen.

(They also incorrectly had Sanchez vs. Leon down as 12 rounds instead of the actually scheduled 10. Although in fairness, it was a defense of Sanchez's WBC silver 115lb title - which is generally contested over twelve, as when he acquired it... :huh)

That means it's for next crack at Juan Francisco Estrada, after he defends against Milan Melindo! :shock:

 

Round 1

Marquez is circling left and catching Tamara's jabs on his right glove. Marquez circles and parries, not putting together much offense. One wild left hand lead by Marquez in orbit, easily sidestepped by the stationary Tamara. Marquez is giving him lots of respect, warily making his way around leaving no openings. Tamara swats with a hook. Diving left to the body by Marquez. Tamara doubles a jab into the air. Marquez quickly scoots in and plants a left hand on Tamara's forehead. Body shot by Marquez. Picking up in the last thirty seconds.

You would think Tamara was the feared puncher from the wide berth Marquez gave him in the 1st...but Marquez's body shots physically shifted Tamara.
