Marciano's 49-0 record was reviewed fight by fight by Steve Farhood in November 1994's 'The Ring'.

Rocky Marciano the Rock of his times by Russell Sullivan.

Mentions on page 11, that Rocky Marciano knock Epperson out of the ring by a right uppercut.

Not really. Bernard Hopkins, Roy Jones, James toney admitted watching film of several of these fighters to master their styles. Some of these men are some of the best technicians in history.

I see a bunch of old and over the hill dudes, some light heavies and guys The Rock never fought.

Granted, Rock beat what was available and ducked no one. He gets kudos for that. Judge the era as you will, Marciano was a greater and entertaining fighter.

I remember this article when it came out.

who were all either champions/Ring Magazine #1 contenders and still looked fantastic on film

Who did he fight that weighed below 175lb?

Young, good, highly rated fighters who were also sensational amatuers....these guys never got a shot at rock because the era was deep and they couldn't get past that "old over the hill" fighter Archie Moore.

Sure, the era wasn't the one of the greatest, but it wasn't **** either. Would you say Rocky's era was better than the early 1920s?

A lot of young good highly rated fighters of Jeffries era, had similar problems with the over the hill Fitzsimmons!

Somtimes, nobody bothers to tell the old guy that they are over the hill!

good post, some very interesting details and it shows Rock did beat many big men, the best quality fighters of the era were not the biggest in fact it was the 6ft Walcott and Archie Moore that cleaned out many of the big guys but the era was as strong as any.

Got to say win, lose or draw I love watching Bob Satterfield fight.
