He beat a bunch of New England ham and eggers followed up by some ancient ass has beens and a couple light heavies. 32 of his 49 fights were in New England! The rest were in New York, Philly, one in Chicago... and wait, he traveled as far as San Francisco to fight no hoper Cockell. Meh...
How was Don Cockell a no hoper? He was British Commonwealth and European champion back in the day when it meant something not like now.
He was a light heavy with a glandular problem. Yeah, he was talented and had grit but didn't have a lot of business working against the big boys. I am glad heavyweights finally developed over the decades since.
yeh i am glad that heavyweights have developed too but he fought the best that where around at that time. He was a very small heavyweight and he started very late in his career. Do you rate him in top 10 heavy weights of all time?
wow didnt realize he retired at 32, sounds pretty young. wonder if he coulda kept his streak goin had he fought longer?
Can anyone unearth anything on that Jerry Jackson - Infact my bad I'll stop being lazy and have a scoot round on the net myself as its quiet at work at the minute - but obviously if anyone unearths anything in the meantime let me know - wonder if Burt or JG have any recollection of him?
