Saul Rodriguez vs. Cesar Valenzuela, 6 rounds @ super featherweight

 

Round 1

Rodriguez is playing cat and mouse with Valenzuela, chasing him around the ring and failing to close the distance. Valenzuela is grinning and catching Rodriguez at the end of very light jabs while circling quickly away, dancing with his toothpick legs sprung up on each set of toes, very fluid footwork. No power punches and very little engagement by Valenzuela, but good defensive movement and jabs to stymie the unbeaten youngster.

Round 2

Valenzuela is landing the jab from outside, turning at the corners and dropping in right crosses. Rodriguez is walking into shots and losing the support of the crowd, who now cheer when the showy Valenzuela lands his long sharp (but not very forceful) counters whilst constantly moving

Round 3

Valenzuela is luring Rodriguez to the ropes, squatting there for a moment, then springing up with soft right hands. Jabs moving around by Valenzuela. Rodriguez jabs from a tight guard and lines Valenzuela up with a PERFECT RIGHT CROSS. Valenzuela begins to fall but Rodriguez can't halt his own momentum walking into him. Rodriguez carries Valenzuela to the ropes, which almost hold him up, but Valenzuela's legs are too quaky. Valenzuela falls. He gets up and tries begging to continue but the ref is looking into his eyes and determines he is done.

KO3!!

 

The kid was getting schooled a bit there, yet pulled it out and improves to 11-0 (8.)

 

Andrew Hernandez vs. Jose Alvarez, 4 rounds @ super middleweight

 

Round 1

Hernandez is flicking jabs in from the outside and circling in either direction. Alvarez bounces in place and looks to catch Hernandez with the sweeping hook at chest level. Alvarez hops away after missing. Jabs and light hooks on the head by Hernandez darting in and then to his left. Very tentative round, both using lots of jumpy excess movement.

Hernandez is 4-0, while Alvarez is 3-2 ...with neither having ever stopped anyone. :!:

 

Round 2

Hernandez is circling to his right and dropping in the 1-2. Wild looping right haymakers by Alvarez rushing in, knocked down as Hernandez drops his glove into them casually as he keeps circling. Alvarez has the right wrist up in front of his eyes, obscuring his vision in one. Alvarez is jumping in as a southpaw and jabbing the body, missing as Hernandez hops away.

Round 3

Hernandez is jabbing Alvarez in the nose, causing it to bleed slightly. Alvarez is pumping in double jabs and climbing right hands with bad intentions but unable to land cleanly as Hernandez eases backward a step ahead of him. Hernandez ducks a wild windmilled right and lands a pair to the body.

Round 4

Hernandez is leaning in with a 1-2 and backing Alvarez up, then winging long body shots before drawing himself upright and circling out. Alvarez hops around him and dives in with wide body shots. Hard right hand by Hernandez backing Alvarez up. Alvarez beckons with a show of machismo, waving Hernandez on. Alvarez is cut over the left brow. Alvarez jumps in slamming both fists down on Hernandez's head but is countered and backed up by a hard right hand. Jab to the face, right cross to the body by Hernandez. They are talking **** in each others' face while throwing shots on the inside, right through the final bell.
