Neuky Santelises vs. Joseliz Cepeda, 4 rounds @ super featherweight

 

Round 1

Santelises is tossing jabs down at the smaller Cepeda, with baseball pitch right hands and big wrecking ball uppercuts to the body brought behind the jab but thrown very wide. Cepeda is plugging away with straights and overhands standing in, forcing the ganglier Santelises back.

Round 2

Cepeda is ducking and lunge-stepping in with jabs and big line drive rights up top. Santelises is looking more tentative, backing up and jabbing lightly or sweeping out long hooks. Cepeda is applying constant pressure, chin down and hands up, letting both hands go inside.

Cepeda is 5-2 and has yet to record a career knockout. Santelises, the ostensible favorite here, is 5-1 (4) and his one loss was by knockout...

 

Round 3

Santelises is looking to grab Cepeda from outside after flicking a double jab at him, just brushing Cepeda with his knuckles or missing outright with no intention of snapping it all the way in. BIG right hand by Cepeda. Santelises is very badly hurt. Santelises' head wobbles as he leans down on Cepeda, holding on and smothering. Uppercuts inside by Cepeda. Flurries by Santelises backing up, getting caught as Cepeda leaps in with lunging straight rights up top. Santelises is on jelly legs for most of the round.

Round 4

Santelises is jabbing and backing up, sweeping out the hook and flailing down with the right hand as he washes up on the ropes and takes a breather. Cepeda is pressing in, staying low and rolling under the loose jabs and flurries of Santelises, and blasting him with single right hand leads and 1-2s on and incline leaping up off his toes. Uppercuts on the inside by Cepeda when Santelises attempts to swallow him up in a clinch wit his long arms. Santelises jabs and tosses limp-armed flurries backing up as Cepeda drives him across the ring landing right hands.

The commentators are every bit as incredulous as me about how the one judge saw that a draw.

Color analyst Brian Adams (former lightweight fringe contender from Queens in the late 90's and early 00's) says that permitting judges to progress in their careers without sanction after turning in cards like that is what leads to bad decisions on higher-profile cards and in turn leads to casual fans dismissing boxing as too corrupt or in any event too inherently flawed to bother with.

Younan rushes in and drills McClaren in the center of the ring. McClaren is wiped out and that is THAT.

Antoine Douglas vs. Colby Courter, 6 rounds @ middleweight

 

Douglas is 10-0 (6). Courter is 4-0 (4).

Someone's 0 has gotta go!!

 

Round 1

Courter puts out some right jabs while circling. Douglas is reaching out and tapping Courter on the forehead with his right, then crisscrossing inside with short diagonal steps to land right and left uppercuts to the body as Courter leans forward and shields himself with arms in an X. Douglas nails Courter with a right hand and rocks him just before the bell.
