Well? Simply for entertainment, fights like Monzon vs Hagler need not apply.

    Give us a top 5.

Weird, was just looking back at old threads for this. It's not a perfect list (if that even exists) but I like:
    • Tiger vs Valdez
    • Briscoe vs Lausse
    • Apostli vs O'Dowd
    • Toney vs LaMotta
    • Briscoe vs Benn

I agree, those hypotheticals have been worn down to the last thread of tread.

Hmm, that's a tough one RC. I love watching Griffith work, but he was never in the type of ATG wars I was going for in my list (Paret III tragedy aside). Fullmer's dirty aggression and lack of power would mean that Griffith could box and counter, without having to be overly cautious. I think this looks like Griffith-Tiger, and is an ugly, scrappy affair.

Fullmer vs Barkley or Vito though, now that's a fight!

Yep, EG could adapt to any style that he was up against...he was aggressive and roughed up the boxer types (Benvenuti, Archer, Dupas, etc.), he deftly outboxed the sluggers (Tiger, Briscoe, etc.) and gave an ATG like Monzon all he could handle in their rematch. Speaking of Tiger, besides outboxing him and decking Tiger for the first time in his career, he also even appeared to be the stronger man at times...and as a plus, he was the first and only fighter to figure out and remedy the style of the otherwise unfathomable wizard Gypsy Joe Harris. I personally have always liked and appreciated the middleweight Griffith more than the welter version of him. Griffith was one of the strongest, most clever and versatile of all the middles.

It's been playing on my mind all day this, RC. I think the lightweight is the best division there ever was, but in terms of the amount to quality fights you can imagine, 160 is hard to beat. Just a couple others I figured would be amazing fights.

    Dick Tiger vs Mickey Walker
    Stanley Ketchel vs Jake LaMotta
    Iran Barkley vs Bennie Briscoe
    Gene Fullmer vs Mustafa Hamsho
    Vito Antoufermo vs Nigel Benn
    Cyclone Hart vs Curtis Parker
    Carmen Basilio vs Rocky Graziano
