Name FIVE of your Fantasy hookups Alltime, you'd love to see and why,all in their absolute primes....I'll venture first..
1 -Jack Dempsey of Toledo vs Joe Louis Of Baer fight...you must have a
    clearance note from your cardiologist...
2- Joe Louis vs Ali...Louis like a coil spring unwinding, catches Ali with blinding speed combinations ,that Ali never experienced before.
Louis hit faster and twice as hard as Doug Jones....
3-Harry Greb with two eyes vs Ray Robinson, as a middleweight...In 15 rounds Greb swarms over Robbie, roughing him up to a unanimous decision.
4-Ike Williams[uncuffed] of the Beau Jack fight in Philly,[which I saw] vs
Roberto Duran, at his lightweight best...Williams, tall, rangy, and a murderous puncher [Saddler never DREAMED to challenge him], would cut up the great Duran ,and whip him.Williams faced better lightweights.
    5-Henry Armstrong @ 147, facing a prime Carmen Basilio in a 15 rd fight..
A fight of attrition, that i can't pick a winner...
    Just a few ESB. And YOUR'S ???
P.S. The best winning entry gets 2 box seats to Lady Gaga singing "La Boheme" at the Metropolitan Opera. !

Jack Dempsey(toledo) vs. Joe Louis(Baer) is tops for the reasons you listed. Some serious leather being thrown in that one.

Ezzard Charles vs. Sam Langford at LHW Would be a crazy mix of styles, fast hands, and power. Someone's getting KTFO!

Henry Armstrong vs. Willie Pep at FW- Most epic swarmer/boxer matchup I can think of. Dynamite. I wonder how often Henry would catch Willie?

Harry Greb vs. Marvin Hagler at MW- Old versus new, lots of butts, lots of dirty ****, lots of blood, two iron chins, big will to win.

Joe Gans vs. Benny Leonard vs. Roberto Duran- Any match between the three would be incredible, three very different styles that dominated, all individual top 15 atg fighters...

Dempsey vs Marciano- I'd say a good pairing, evenly matched, with different strengths. Tough fight for both guys.

Frazier vs Louis- See above (and avatar).

Williams vs Duran- Always think of these two meeting up. Violence. Pure violence.

Armstrong vs Pryor- Many of the same strengths played against each other. High action, high contact fight.

Charles vs Patterson- Interesting matchup that I could see either way.

Ike vs. Roberto would be explosive! Nice one.

Off the top of my head here goes.

    1) Charley Burley vs Sugar Ray Robinson (just has to be settled)
    2) Archie Moore vs. Tommy Loughran (2 of the smartest boxers i've seen footage of, beautiful chessmatch i would think)
    3) Joe Frazier vs James Toney (the one that beat Holyfield) I think Toney is slick enough and can take a good enough punch to make this a classic match. Great at avoiding left hooks too.
    4) Arguello vs. Duran (I see this as being similar to Hearns and Hagler but lasting a lot longer.)
    5) Wilfred Benitez vs. Aaron Pryor (I would watch this fight a million times. I can't see this being anything less than astounding)

This pretty much changes on a daily basis, Burt.

    Matchups that make me think...
    Leonard/Walker
    Frazier/Marciano
    Monzon/Burley
    Armstrong/Williams
    Duran/Basilio

    Sugar Ray Robinson-Charley Burley
I don't think it would be that good actually, but it is one of the great, great fights that never happened, and it would be fascinating to see how Burley's apparent advantages transfer themselves into actual combat against one of the greatest. Probably the fight I think about the most.

    Dick Tiger v Mickey Walker.
Two violent *******s who were also excellent boxers. Both guys who tended to respond with aggression when directly challenged who also tend to directly confront opponents...

    Carlos Zarate v Ruben Olivares.
Would be good to find out.

    Jimmy Carroll v Elbows McFadden.
Two outstanding 1800's lightweights, both outstandingly durable. Over 25 rounds this would be epic, and they are two of my favourites, guys i'm really interested in.

    Roman Gonzalez v Ricardo Lopez
Two of my favourites, and the two best minumweights i've ever seen, i'd love this. I guess it's not fair, Roman is likely to green to beat Lopez, but he has a style advantage if he can claim it.

Speaking of green, putting Baer Louis in with Toledo Dempsey reeks of cruelty to children to me. Louis may have looked sensational versus Baer but he didn't know himself as a pro yet. Putting a guy who's never really been hurt who hasn't seen a wide range of styles at the world class is not wisdom IMO. Let Louis at least lift the title before you start matching him with super-destructive Dempsey!

    Ali-Marciano
In prime form, Ali takes a hard-fought decision, and concurs with his prediction that Marciano was his toughest challenge ever.

    Ike Williams-Roberto Duran
In the battle for ultimate LW, this display of blood and violence ends with both men struggling to stand by fights' end. Williams edges it on points through cuts, but an argument can also be made by the bruises inflicted by Duran on Ike's ribs.

    George Foreman-Joe Louis
In the ultimate HW punchfest, both men are severely bloodied and bruised. But it eventually comes down to who's the bigger, stronger man. We all know who that is.

    Ray Robinson-Dick Tiger

Ray the better all-around boxer, while Tiger is the bigger, stronger man with murderous punching power and sound technique as well. Had these two met then, I feel Tiger would've been the toughest opponent SRR faced. Which is the case in the match, as Robinson does need every skill he has in barely outpointing the Nigerian in a close decision. As I also feel, Robinson agrees that Dick Tiger is notch above LaMotta, Fullmer, Graziano, Turpin in quality of opposition.

    Marvin Hagler-Tony Ayala Jr.

Marvin is in peak form, and Tony has recently grown out of 154 into a full-fledged MW. With KO wins over Moore, Benitez, Duran and Hearns (also having been bested by Hearns once), El Torito is ready to challenge the ultimate MW. And the crowd gets their money's worth, as a MW bloodfest for the ages ensues. Marvin is the better boxer, but Tony unleashes a murderous punching assault that pushes Hagler to the limit. Pressed for sure...but not broken. Hagler has the skills and experience to weather the firestorm, and begins to assert his control as young Tony begins to tire. Hagler recovers and finally puts the young fireball out in the 12th round. The two exhausted warriors embrace with nothing but the utmost respect for each other, both concurring that this was their toughest bout ever.

    Nice thread :D

    1) Sonny Liston Versus George Foreman. (I'd kill to see video of their sparring sessions)

    2) Joe Louis Versus Smokin Joe Frazier

    3) Joe Louis Versus Mike Tyson

    4) 2002 Lennox Lewis Versus Mike Tyson (1985-1988 )

    5) David Tua (1996) versus Mike Tyson (1996)

There are many more I'd love to see, but since I could only pick five...

    Alberto Davila vs Alan Rudkin

Both guys were excellant technicians, who could adapt and competed with some of the best names at Bantamweight, although falling short, just. Davila has the speed advantages but Rudkin probably has the better timing and accuracy. Just such a close fight.

Luis Manuel Rodriguez vs Carlos Monzon

Rodriguez at his prime at Middleweight was superb, he really seemed to do better against the bigger guys. Here he would face a very stern test but I think he could pull it off, he has the speed and skills to out-box Monzon early like Napoles but also the physical strength to hang with Monzon when it gets tough.

I can't think of anymore that really keep me awake at night debating in my head.
