5 guys who END the GGG hype!

Crude in the sense that he has a less flashy...yeah. Being flashy means nothing. Canelo can throw the one-two with a nice stance, but he's got shitty footwork and lacks the ability to cut off the ring.

GGG's got better balance. He knows how to control the ring and cut people off. He's also got a better offensive arsenal.

I can't recall the exact quotation about Alvarez but it was more along the lines of Gennady being asked who really impressed him of the top fighters he'd sparred with. Gennady just kinda pulled out the best name that sprung to mind - it was definitely a sparring question though.

That said, from the reports they got a good workout from each other with Golovkin getting tagged a few times, though hurting 'Nelo a little more.

I sure as hell ain't writing Froch off for one. A sober rewatching of the fight showed that Groves was far less dominant than he at first appeared (though still ahead on the cards IMO) and it's old news that Froch can be out-boxed, it's his ability to prevail over 12 rounds that always made him special.

Groves still has to win at the top level; although he did impress against Froch he was IMO heading for a loss. Against a technically better boxer in GGG I'm unconvinced of his chances. Still GGG-GG = Good fight (could be the ideal 168 debut fight for Golovkin).

Ward is the only fighter of the 5 that I'd confidently predict beating GGG, but I'd also love to see it cos I believe it'd bring the very best outta Golovkin, and I'm sure he'd have moments of success. I don't think Ward would be able to completely shut him down the way he has to so many others.

Chavez Jr arguably shouldn't have even had the win over Vera and really should hang 'em up if he's not gonna take it seriously. If he got back to full fitness and got some solid training in though it would be a decent fight, but one I can only see GGG winning.

Canelo might have stood with GGG OK in sparring (despite apparently getting his legs stiffened) but in a real fight Golovkin beats him up IMO. Their skill and ring IQ is on a different level and GGG has so much more in his arsenal.

 

Chavez Jr and Canelo are tailor made for GGG. They have both sparred him and would doubt they ever float a contract his way.

Groves is unproven and I'm not about to annoint him on a fight where Froch looked absolutely horrible and was downright sloppy. Froch may have slipped a lot that last fight.

Ward would be tough, the style matchup is something GGG has never faced in the pros but if he is calling Tim Bradley a beast... GGG will give him more problems than Timmy could.

GGG isn't the greatest ever or anything, but give him his respect. A guy his size throwing almost 80 punches a round with the power he puts on them with both hands will give anyone problems.

Golovkin beats Canelo, period !

Don't know how well 3G would carry his power @ 168 but his boxing skills, chin and footwork are top notch level.

 

I believe Ward is the only confident bet to beat Golovkin and even that is not a formality although I would make him the favourite due to his excellent defence. Other than that Golovkin would be the favourite against most other challenges.

He is irrelevant to GGG, a much bigger man in an entirely seperete weightclass. Ward is far too big to be a credible opponent for GGG. People putting the two together are just silly.....

 

Ward is the only guy boring enough to beat GGG on that list, the rest get a beating. Froch would just walk straight in to every shot before landing on his face. Groves would do better, if he boxed, if he slugged, he's getting sparked, if he boxes, he's getting stopped mind to late rounds. Chavez Jr is fat. Canelo's work rate is too low and his defence is ****.
