This is more difficult than I thought. Tyson didn't make my cut because he was such a combination puncher. He rarely hit guys with just one punch, so just judging his hook could be difficult. I left off Cooney which was just stupid. I don't think Jeffries makes it just because when he was KOing guys more often than not it was late and they were midgets. Liston is right on the cusp. I still think Galento deserves top-5. That hook was about all he had and it was devastating.
Dempsey Frazier Tyson Cooney Marciano Vlad..does not use it enough Weaver Rudduck Morrison At a quick glance...Morrison and Rudduck has suspect chins and Cooney was frail but they had some great highlights, mostly over fighters past there prime and the hook lost its pop when in with the Elite
Agree that Cooney is an omission, from what Ive seen on youtube he was absolutely devastating and I think Foreman rated him the hardest puncher he'd faced
I think Tua had the hardest left hook of all. I think Wlad Klitschko has a really hard left hook. Then Liston. After these three, I don't know.
1 Punch knockout power? I'm not sure Dempsey has awesome 1 punch knockout power with his left, and so does Tua. Liston has a great left hook too. Frazier, nah, he was not a knockout artist, he had to wear someone down before KOing them. but he certainly had a lot of power in his left. I like Liston's hook Morrison and Rudduck also have pretty good hooks. if I were to rate them.... #1. Jack Dempsey #2. David Tua #3. Sonny Liston #4. Tommy Morrison #5. Joe Louis #6. Joe Frazier #7. Razor Rudduck #8. Mike Tyson #9. Rocky Marciano #10. Gerry Cooney Seems like a good list to me, I just can't include Frazier, he was not a Mike Tyson who started fast, He started slow and then maintained that pace for the rest of the fight.
I wouldnt regard Frazier slow-paced, exactly the opposite, he had very good one-punch power but I dont think he was as devastating with a single hook as some others
Great to include Weaver , so often overlooked but for straight power one of the best two handed one punch KO guys ...
Tysons left hook as a single punch was lethal. I do take your point as more often than not it was part of a combo. He threw guys across the ring with a single left hook, tomato cans or not, which is a thing ive very rarely seen. Even Berbicks 3 KDs were from a single left hook
Like I said, it is hard task limiting it to 5. Revised: Tua Dempsey Morrison Tyson Cooney and I'm still not satisfied leaving off Ruddock, Louis and Galento.
Tua, Morrison, Frazier, Tyson, and Ruddock come to mind first. Cooney, Patterson, Marciano, Liston, and Holyfield had nice left hooks as well.
