This will be better answered after FMJ faced Ortiz (not very crucial) and after Pac faced JMM (VERY crucial).

If Pac struggles against JMM (highly unlikely), it would mean that he lost all the tools that I thought he would employ effectively against FMJ to be able to beat him:

    - unorthodox volume punching backed up by an endless pool of stamina EVEN AFTER BEING COUNTERED AND STILL WINNING THE EXCHANGE nonetheless. Morales, JMM and Cotto all experienced that it's nearly impossible to win an exchange against Pac.

    - superb ring movement, not allowing May to clinch and not overstepping when he tries to lunge. Proper feet placement before he initiates the attack like what he did against Cotto and ODLH. JMM used to exploit this and IMHO Pac has fixed this, so we'll see. I've said this countless times, if FMJ won't clinch against Pac, he will go down. If we saw the ring movement of the Pac that fought against Mosley, then it will be an easy fight in favor of FMJ.

    - ability to adjust mid-game. I know FMJ is the master of this skill, but Pac's ability to adjust as well is underrated. Problem is, the reason why FMJ always wins is bec his opponents run out of game plans after he adjusts. I don't see the combination of Pac and Roach allowing this to happen.

I can see both an early KO by Pac (should FMJ underestimate Pac's speed or if FMJ gets cocky) or a close UD (more likely).

Otherwise, I can easily see May winning a very wide UD (if Pac struggles to get shots in, break the clinch and "run" after Floyd).

Pacquiao hasnt fought anyone who made him think or hesitate to throw punches and combinations, and adjust strategy. What if hes put into a situation hes not comfortable fighting with? Whenever I see Pacquiao get frustrated he gets left hand dominant with 1-2 same punches over and over..

My point is, what happens when Pacquiao's gameplan isnt working and hes frustrated? If hes Offense is shot out.. then what?

Maybe but JMM also was down a lot against Pac and he had to be willing to get hit to get Pac, the same plan he did against Diaz. My question is will Floyd be willing to put himself in that position in order to get off his famous counters because that's exactly what Marquez and Morales did to counter Pac.

You say Pac is not a one punch KO figher at welter, well neither was Shane and he hurt Floyd pretty well. After Mosley was knocked down with that one punch, he was very weary of getting caught with another. He clearly stated that he was in fear of getting knocked out, something he did not state about the Floyd fight. Shane's chin IMO > Floyd's chin. I see Pacquiao being inaccurate in a Floyd fight but I also see Floyd not being able to take any risk because of fear of getting hit which will reduce his effectiveness. The Mayweather Mosley fight is misleading because of the marketing of Shane's handspeed, something he clearly is no longer elite in that category anymore.

very insightful read. But I feel as if Mayweathers defense got even better from his previous years.
