What about if you include the refunds for the technical issues? As I stated, I called my cable company and paid $0s for it. (Paid $99.95 then got credited back $99.95 for technical issues during the main event)
No they don't, because the technical glitch was listed for multiple cable companies: Verizon Cox Charter Comcast Cablevision DirecTV DISH Bright House AT&T RCN Customers from many different cable networks reported blackouts during the buildup and early part of the main event. Search it in google and you can read all about it. It is very important that customers who experienced technical issues demand a full refund, and the cable companies shouldn't take a hit if it was not their error. if it is a promotional company failure, which is seems to be (because again it's not just one cable company) then they are the one who should lose money, not the cable companies.
Yes, but the "cable glitches" weren't in relationship to the actual stream coming out of HBO/Showtime. As that was seen worldwide without glitches, a lot of the glitches came to overflow on local systems, therefore they will have to pay their fee to the PPV company. Same thing happened in a situation where rain storm killed Satellitte coverage for an event. Insurance will probably cover it, but ultimately customers will get a refund from their cable company, cable company won't get a refund from the promotional companies.
It's unacceptable, and reports are that this only happened for some customers, not others. I called a friend, who had a blackout, another friend didn't. Again, this is a massive failure for a fight of this magnitude and something must be done about it. I got my money back, because my cable company checked my account and verified the blackout during the main event. Some companies might be overwhelmed by anyone claiming blackouts. I am just sharing with you my experience. It is a terrible failure even if only 10% of paid customers experienced such a blackout as the main event has started. That should absolutely come out of the pockets of the promoters as their mistake, error that dramatically affected many peoples experience of the telecast.
A technical glitch??? Dude, we paid $100 for a freaking fight, and after the Santa Cruz fight the entire feed went out!!! And it didn't return until after the fight started! We missed ring entrances, national anthem, everything. That's unacceptable!! Root cause needed to determine how this happened. An apology and explaination by TMT / Top Rank / HBO / Showtime somebody would be great.
You're not reading what I said. You asked the question "What about if you include the refunds for technical problems" - I answered by stating that your particular cable company would have to reimburse you but would not receive a refund from the promotional company. You're now caught up in some bull**** thinking that the promotional companies need to explain why your own personal network provider couldn't keep up with demand.
Not just my network provider. A large amount of customers on a variety of network providers had this happen. I'd imagine it was in fact a supply / demand issue, but those numbers were due to how many people who ordered the PPV. Those who experienced technical issues that get re-imbursed by the cable companies cut into the sales numbers. If there were 5 million PPV sales, and it was determined that 20% of paid customers had a blackout, and missed part of the main event and get re-inbursed then it's only techincally 4 million PPV sales. That said I doubt TMT or Top Rank wants to hear about it, or wants to pay that bill. It's probably is going to hurt Showtime / HBO more than TMT / Top Rank because that's who broadcasted it, and made an error obviously in not being prepared to broadcast the PPV. It's perticuarly annoying because I take pride in paying for PPV. And when I or anyone pays $100 and miss part of the main event that's a huge problem and it should affect the net PPV sales. Which is why it's important that we figure out what happened and what went wrong. If it is not announced what went wrong then I and probably a lot of other angry fans are going to think twice about ordering more PPV boxing events. It's truly an epic fail that this blackout happened and the public deserves re-imbursement and answers. Because this wasn't just any fight, this was a fight that we have waited for 6 years and it is simply amazing that such a blackout happened. In addition, I heard that the blackout actually delayed the fight until the issue was fixed and changed the entire karma surrounding the main event.
I payed nothing too ($99.95 - $99.95 = $0.00) and watched it in HD on my TV without having to worry about an internet stream cutting out. That peace of mind is priceless, And although I didn't pay a cent I can sleep well at night knowing that I actually bought the PPV and didn't just steal it on an internet stream. (morally wrong and illegal) To be honest, I was half expecting something to go wrong lol. Until I actually saw both guys in the ring I didn't believe the fight would actually happen. When the feed cut out, it was kinda funny because we were like Floyd probably got scared and cancelled the fight lmao..
Karma has nothing to do with it. I'd be interested in knowing which particular areas were affected. Sounds more like network issues within those areas (Probably all pointing to a single point of failure) rather than an issue with how HBO/Showtime televised/streamed it.
