Guerrero was the best WW fight Mayweathet could make. Many said he should've fought Canelo instead. Well now Canelo has a signature win and the fight is happening. You can't ask for more than for a guy to fight the best available comp. That's what Mayweather is doing.
Oddly enough, it was the two who weren't rated that were probably the better test. JMM was two divisions down, Hatton one division down and far less skilled. Cotto wasn't rated P4P, but was healthy and at full weight. Ortiz was a young, strong, true welter. Mosley was toast.
Are we talking about the same Robert Guerrero who gatecrashed the Ring P4P Top 10 a couple of weeks before the fight and then disappeared from the top 10 almost as quickly as he got in? Jeez...
You know I didn't notice that, but it's so ****ing true. P4P ratings are a joke, though. Point being anything with Adrien Broner in the top 10 is a ****ing joke.
:happy I think with Youtube, boxing forums Fbook etc... it has brought along many bandwagon fans/trolls etc..40% of all the posters are straight band wagoners who have nothing better to do than critique world class fighters..
Tells you all you need to know about Ring's p4p rankings. They're a joke most of the time and can't be taken seriously. Guerrero and Canelo have never been worthy of breaking into the top 10. Which makes it 3 out of 7.
None of Floyds opponents are bad they are all top quality fighters. The issue is they have not been the person people want to see him against. When was the last time a Floyd fight was announced and it was the person you really wanted to see him fight. Canelo is the first one in a long time.
Ortiz/Guerrero are exciting YET c level fighters and Hatton was nothing but an overhyped fighter with no boxing skills .
Cotto Before that SSM . . . people were calling him a beast after he ripped margo a new ******* and they said PBF would never take the fight just like they were saying before cinnamon. Before that Hatton . . . who people claimed he ducked and his fans still say until this day that it would have been different with a different ref Before that Oscar . . . who he had chased for years and gave into every single demand that he had. In between those I wanted to see the Ortiz fight because they were saying the same thing about Ortrees as Canelo, young hungry lion . . . etc. The JMM was a interesting match-up coming off of a long layoff and the guy who arguably beat Pac. wait a sec . . . that is almost all of his fights in the last few years. before that was Baldy who people say he ducked for Zab (the guy Baldy just beat) Before that Zab, who people wanted to know how he would deal with a slick boxer who is faster than him and punched harder. In fact I would have to go way back to Mitchell were I can say it was not an intriguing match-up . . . but it was his first fight at WW
It's kind of unrealistic for people to ask him to fight Martinez at this stage when Martinez has grown into a middleweight and would most likely be drained at 154. Martinez walks around 15-20 lbs above middle now and in my opinion wouldn't be able to make 154 comfortably anymore. 4 years ago he probably could, but now that he's aged and grown a bit, I just don't see it happening. The Pac ordeal was a fiasco all around, but in all honesty the evidence by far points to Bob Arum as being the reason why the fight didn't happen. Knocking Floyd for the Pac fight not happening would be like knocking Lennox for the Bowe fight not happening. At the very least, if it hurts Floyd's legacy then it should hurt Pac's just as much. Ideally, people would have lashed out at Arum like they did with Floyd (undeservingly) and put him into a position to where he is either forced to make the fight or state that he won't make it.
