Was a good technical fight that had a bit of everything, have watched it twice, live and once a while back.
Epic fight. Although Calzaghe didn't 'adapt' The insane tempo just got to Kessler. Joe said so himself. "This is the only fight ever where the thought of losing entered my mind. But then when I saw Kessler breathing hard in round 7 I knew I would win". Calzaghe beat Kessler on stamina. And this is also the reason why he might have beaten Ward if they were to fight. I do think Ward has more strings to play on, but Calzaghe might still 'dominate' him after round 6 if Ward cannot handle the pace.
I remember Mayweather - Hatton being touted as "Undefeated" that took place a month later, Kessler vs Calzaghe was a proper "Undefeated" fight.
Actually most Americans didnt know who the **** Kessler was. Until he got exposed by a child and took life and death with Carl Froch
The very fact that the bout was even through 6 and Calzaghe was struggling with Kesslers counters and his own offense lends me to believe he coukd be 6 rounds down on the cards before hed have that chance.
Don't be confused, I never said Mayweather - Hatton was not an "undefeated" fight. I was just in the minority that was looking more forward to Kessler Calzaghe.
Just 3 years ago ward struggled with kessler having to use headbutts elbows low blows, a guy who was never the same after the calzaghe fight. Speaks volumes about calzaghe's boxing skills. Ward is a good fighter, calzaghe was a great.
Ward went 12 rounds with allan green, kessler 1 punched him in round 4. That tells me everything I need to know.
