5 Young Upcoming Heavyweights - Future Looks Good.

ruiz has been beating up on ppl who assume the same looking at him. dude can fight and has fast ass hands. he was freddie roach's fighter but he left. not sure who he's working with now.

 

Yeah the Klitschkos suck, but Washington and Wilder are good. Gotcha atsch

 

he's a toprank fighter. blame that on his matchmakers. the kid wants to fight.

 

in due time u will see what i already know.

neither klitschko has faced anyone with the combination of speed, athleticism and aggression of wilder or washington. they aren't coming to survive...they are coming to knock u the fcuk out. they are the two biggest threats in the heavyweight division.

 

Ruiz is coming along nicely, i expect to him taking a step up in class sometime next year. Maybe he'll get a big fight on the likely Pac/Algieri undercard assuming he dispatches Aguilera as expected....

 

of the american prospects....here's my view...

2. gerald washington
3. bryant jennings
4. andy ruiz
5. dominic breazeale

 

Washington is former a college football player and NFL reject, he didn't get into boxing until a few years ago... Don't even get me started on Wilder, I'm sure you've seen my posts about him over the last few years. Neither are close to even being the best heavyweight prospects, not even in the states. As far as prospects go Ruiz, Martin, Jennings and Breazeale are much better.

wilder has been developing well under mark breland and has been getting top quality sparring. he's not the same guy we saw in the olympics and he's doing exactly what he should against the opposition they're placing in front of him.

washington used to box in his teenage years so he's not new to boxing...he returned to boxing. he's also been developing well and has been sparring some of the best in the heavyweight division and more than holding his own. in his short career he's faced tougher opposition than all the previous guys mentioned. not to mention...the guy is a pure athlete.

I would probably have Ruiz ahead of Jennings, even as Jennings first ESB fanboy:yep, but he has done more to prove he's tops, so your list is perfect in that regard. :think

 

I like Ruiz over Jennings as well, provided he can get in shape. It'll come back to haunt him at world level. Until then Jennings is the 1 undefeated US HW prospect, might move Ruiz up if Perez wins and takes his zero.

 

I think Perez is mentally done.

He was beating Takam early in their fight, but quit moving forward and let himself get beat, only to be gifted a draw.

I think the Mago fight, the memory of it, has truly hurt Perez. It's hurt boxing in that we're now one top 20 short, and it's hurt the fans. I can't imagine the grief that Perez feels.

He seems legitimately gunshy now. Can't throw that counter L with authority. Sux for the divison as b/c of NYSAC deficiencies, that we've got one contender who may never walk again, and another who might also never be the same.:-(

 

Maybe it effected him in the ring, maybe it didn't... We do know that Takam is a legitimate world class operator given his recent performance against Thompson, so it's really hard to blame the Mago tragedy for Perez having a hard time and arguably losing to Takam. We have to assume that Takam is just that good, to say that Perez was effected mentally to the point where he can't give it all and is gun shy is just an assumption. Kovalev killed a guy in the ring, and while it definitely had an impact on him mentally it didn't take his career from him.

But watching the Takam Perez fight, you could almost see Perez pulling his punches after the 4th. Maybe he hurt his hand. He did end up postponing his eliminator with Jennings....idk.

But if he starts off winning vs Jennings, then he has a sudden loss of ambition with being hurt.....could be the gun shy assumption is correct.
