i'll throw in one that could have happened - Joe Frazier vs Floyd Patterson in 1972. Now I had always felt that any version of Joe woud have beaten any version of Floyd (although I am a great fan of both). That may be the case, but in 1972 Floyd was good enough to win a close decision over Bonavena, and Joe was less than spectacular against Daniels and Stander. That may have been the best time and chance for Patterson in this fight. Someone once wrote that Patterson was not that vulnerable to a left hook, and with Joe being a slow starter, he may have had a chance of surviving the early rounds as he had been unable to do against Liston. I'd still pick Joe to win but it could turn out to be an interesting fight. If Floyd won, he would have been the first three-time champion and if Joe won it would have been a good win for his record and certainly enhanced his 1972 record.

The young goofballs at the Rong played the devil's advocate the whole mag and picked the modern fighter the upset winner. Just look at Lopez ko11 Wilde. Lol

Well this forum in large part is devoted to fantasy fights that never happened.

I was hoping The Ring would have narrowed the scope a bit to fights that could have happened but didn’t — Danny Lopez vs. Wilfredo Gomez, for instance, or Larry Holmes vs. John Tate — like @Fuzzykat did.

    Oh well.
