In the '79-'80 time frame Duran would either beat or give the fighters that are going to be listed in upper tiers of this rating a very tough fight. So I would agree...Duran is low. Hearns would do the same...he would likely beat a number of those who are going to be rated above him...and Walker as well...

For the middleweight list, I had guys ranked 40-31 who had beaten guys ranked in the top ten - Lloyd Marshall, Roy Jones, Marcel Cerdan and Randy Turpin all. Other guys like Billy Conn and Mike McCallum could have turned one over at their very best i bet, too.

As far as I can see his only signature win at 147lbs is over a faded Canzoneri, who had no business fighting at welterweight.

    A bad move, IMO.

Even if he is still regarded as the best of that tier, you're now making him comparable with guys who are clearly inferior as welterweights.

With all due respect to the other sugar, their resumes are not remotely on a par.

I'd have Robinson alone in tier one and maybe an empty tier just below that, and then in tier three, guys like Armstrong, Leonard etc.

I love bummy davis but that win over Montgomery was at catchweights when davis was still trying to make 135lbs.

id have robinson on his own too.
i think the welters who were around in the late 70s early 80s could have their own tier, leonard, hearns, benitez, palomino, cuevas and duran

Ring Magazine ranks Bummy in the top 100 punchers of all time. Not sure exactly where?

Montgomery was 10lbs below the welterweight limit for that fight.I don't think Davis was ever ranked higher than number 9 in the Ring.To put him in perspective Armstrong took him out in 2 rds and Zivic beat him twice.

I'd swap Oscar and Tito. Oscar beat better guys, be it close, and I thought definitely beat Tito.

I think Hearns is too high. He didn't do enough at welter, even if he might've been the best guy to fight there.
