Excessive holding is against the rules. It's shameful we have fights these days with one fighter holding 80, 90 and even 100 times in a boxing match.
Him and Molina vs Kirkland was shameful, I don't understand how the refs don't enforce the rules when it's that bad.
I like Devon, but that was a terrible performance...and even worse is guys like Molina who initiate their offense out of a clinch. Hopkins holding and hitting is DQ worthy at times. Andre Ward has the same problem. Excessive clinching is illegal and I wish more refs would enforce that rule. It generally makes the fight an eyesore to watch.
I think something has to be done about excessive clinching. If Boxing wants to maintain it's popularity it must emphasize what's exciting about it. There's nothing worse than jab-clinch-separate-repeat and the boxers spend more time in a clinch than out. Separate and deduct points or leave them to 'punch out'.
50 years ago they clinched even more the difference is they knew how to fight on the inside and weren't helpless there are were few fighters today who can throw punches forma really close distance. And guys like Ali and SRR clinched just as much as someone like Wlad. I don't think fighters should be allowed to clinch as often as they want but let's be real most fighters just can't throw punches on the inside and just stop to throw anything and wait till the ref breaks them up
Agreed. I ****ing hate it and I wish something could be done. Ruiz was a walking blasphemy to the sport and Ward does it in too many fights as well, although not as much lately it seems. We need a national boxing commission.
