50 Million Dollar Boxing Tournament

Answering my own post... in another thread, a poster translated some of the article - apparently it's a round robin tournament (not elimination) so they can get away with 6 instead of 8.

Strange approach, though... 3 points for ko win, 2 points for points win, 1 point for a draw. Since when does one win actually count for more than another? I see where they are going (decrease chances of a tie + encourage engagement), but don't think I can agree with it.

It would be great for boxing, but it looks hard to make this happen.

IF it happens I think Ward, Direll, Kessler og Abraham is the last man standing.

I actually like Direll here, but ended up voting Kessler by a hair. Shocked to see my man Direll has zero votes. WoW - I know whre to put my money if the odds reflect this poll - and if this super tournament actually happens.

 

This is going to happen because it will be sponsored not just by Showtime but also ARD (Germany), SKY Sports (UK), Viasat (Denmark). This is the most innovative thing to happen to boxing in some time, if this works out we can have these types of tourneys for other divisions and it will bring some major excitement to the sport. Props to everyone involved to make this happen.

i wouldnt mind seeing one of the young guys winning either tho.... one of the andre's ... either way this things going to be amazing

It'll be hard to pull off but Sky, ARD, a danish network and showtime are all on board and Kelle Sauerland appears to have sold the idea to the other promoters. This would be a major shot in the arm for boxing. It's gonna be difficult but with each passing day it does seem more likely with a press conference tentatively scheduled for July 13th at MSG. They wont get Pavlik, Top Rank wouldn't be as easy to deal with. You never know they might a couple of more yet should it happen. I'm buzzing about this idea.

Ward all day. Kessler is my boy but Ward is the best boxer in this tourney. all I know is Dirrel is gonna kill Forch is that fight goes down.

 

i've definitely got kessler winning this. AA vs. Taylor is gonna be one of the first fights. how is that one gonna go down?

 

Probably Kessler but I like Froch so he gets my vote
