I can accept that Izza-Rafa had a better trilogy, but Morales/Barrera 1 is better than any single fight of that trilogy. It's just special.

Two ATG's in their ****ing prime, both Mexican, going toe to toe. It does not happen often.

You think Rafael Marquez is an ATG?

Neither of them are in the class of Barrera and Morales.

 

Prior to their first meeting, Marquez was probably higher in most people's (and media's) p4p rankings...not that I necessarily put major stock into that (and even though he was the guy coming up I recall many tipped him as the betting fav - again, for what that's worth). He certainly had a solid as hell resume at bantam. Best of the decade anyway.

They both jump the hurdle into ATG status by way of their three fights against each other (both probably fall just short without). Whereas, you are correct - both Morales and Barrera would be locks even had they never met.
