Does anyone know anything about this 'street' fighting/martial artform "52 Blocks"??? - some wierd guy I used to work with who was big on breakdancing/uprock and other wierd sh1t mentioned it to me once - he knew absolutely nothing about boxing really but he did mention to me that he knew boxers such as Jack Johnson and particularly Mike Tyson were known to secretly use certain "52 Blocks moves in the ring in some of their boxing matches" unbeknown to most observors?? I had a quick look on the net for stuff about it and came up with this below - can anyone shed anymore light on this?? particularly withre ference to the fighters mentioned to have used/incorporated certain elements of 52 Blocks for use in the boxing ring

52 handblocks is what it's usually called. It's just a ghettofied street fighting system, involving a lot of pointless crossing of the arms, elbows, etc. Zab Judah used it during the Mayweather fight at one point.

A joke is what it is. Reminds me of a poster who claimed that Eubank used some ancient Asian killing technique to beat Michael Watson.

Indeed. As an aside, Archie Moore and the like never used it, just the cross-armed defense which I'm sure the 52 handblocks proprieters would've confused/wanted recognition for.

To his credit, Lyte Burly seems knowledgeable about boxing but I don't think he should market this "style" as some kind of secret technique that boxers used. It's obviously not true. If anything, the style has been inspired by these fighters' techniques, but obviously done without the knowledge and experience in fighting, which renders most of these techniques useless in an actual fight.

Isn't this the supposed 'black' martial art that is banned from practise, but Naseem Hamed has perfected?

It is all the excrement of bulls.

I whatched something on you tube about it a while ago. some bloke practicing with himself in a basket ball court, he called one move "skull and cross bones" because with both elbows raised and the head dipped low it looks like a pirate flag. he demonstrated all sorts non contact ti- chi stuff where the elbows were used. I think the key words that describe a lot of martial artists is NON-CONTACT

    interesting to say the least

I remember reading Peirce Egan's "Boxiana" where he went over many defensice techniques. I remember seeing sketches for 6 different ways to parry a jab, 4 ways to catch a punch, etc

I think the art of blocking had to change with the advancements made on the modern boxing glove.

I wish they still made gloves where your thumb was a bit more free. It would cause people to cheat more, but it would also open more opportunities for defense.
