I’m sick of hearing people deride Wilder for facing Ortiz just because he isn’t prime, but I have to admit that made me laugh.

 

He has been dreaming of this ever since his young days sparring with Teofilo Stevenson.

 

The simple fact is Ortiz is top 5 and far and away the best fighter Wilder will have fought so far. I can;t wait to see what Wilder looks like with a live body in there.

 

I think most reasonable fans really want to see the fight and give Wilder credit for taking it.

Ortiz is old (and that's simply a matter of fact and nothing to do with Wilder), but he's still a consensus top 5 heavyweight.

I for one have been saying that Ortiz is older than he claims for a while, simply because it's the truth and not out of any desire to discredit Wilder.

Ortiz has or at worst had the tools to take out Wilder. He needs to draw an exchange and counter when Wilder starts going past the second punch. Weather he can do that at this age is anyone's guess. Either way I don't think I'd favor the winner over Joshua who is absolutely prime and been fighting good competition for a couple years now.

 

Has there ever been an official confirmation of Ortiz's age? It seems to jump up a year every week the fight draws closer
