    Same way I see it.

I've got no problem with the seniors tour as long as they keep it to other seniors. Heck, it's probably the last profitable angle left for boxing fights that the sport hasn't already latched on to and milked dry.

If they're intent on lacing them up, I'd much rather see an old ex-champ cash out vs another old ex-champ where veryone knows what they're signing on for. That's light years better than the alternative of them fighting for honest to goodness title shots and getting whooped on by guys who'd have been lucky to be their sparring partners back in their hayday.

Makes me think Roy's approached the last few years of his career all wrong- he should've been getting the retired UK stars out of retirement for a series of one-off's instead of getting nearly decapitated by Enzo.

Those two I think are probably just in love with boxing.

I watched a documentary about them, Benn ,Eubank, Collins and Calzaghe not long back. Eubank was questioning Collins with a sly grin, on why he swerved Calzaghe...I dont remember the injury or mri being the reply he gave. I think Collins just didn't fancy it tbh. That and Howard Eastman ko'd him in sparring for the Calzaghe fight

    He shouldn't be licensed.
It's not so much the age alone, it's the time he's been out of the game. He's been out for 20 years.

I did not know he was preparing for Calzaghe at one point. That would of been good for both of them.

To be honest I don't have the source, but it was pretty common knowledge at the time. I'm sure others have heard it too on here !

Calzaghes hands were ok at this stage, and he was hungry. I think he would've put a beating on Collins towards the end if they had fought !

Interesting bit of information, thanks. I wonder if anyone else will chime in?

I'm sure they will. I remember the story and believed it. I took it at the time as him seeing the writing on the wall and decided to just call it a day. Plus, I cant see them licensing him 20 yrs after a dodgy mri if that was the case also.

As far as I remember Steve was being trained by Jimmy tibbs ....tibbs was there supervising the spar at the time...when he collapsed in sparring with Howard Eastman. I recall tibbs saying that he ..tibbs... got a helluva shock seeing a hard man like Collins collapse like that. It musta gave Steve a similar fright , cos he retired!
These days Steve is fully healthy, no lasting damage so far as I am aware.
Unwise to box again at his age though...
