56 year old Heavyweight Hassan Chitsaz takes on 31 year old former fringe contender Chauncy Welliver in Montona this saturday for the vacant WBC United states title. The winner will get a Top 15 rating with the WBC and be in the mix to face the winner between WBC Champ Bermaine Stiverne and Deontay Wilder.

Hassan Chitsaz has 24 wins and 24 knockouts with 1 controversial loss, he's also the bookies favourite to beat Welliver and continue his dream to become the oldest Heavyweight Champion.

This is his record on boxrec.

Welliver lost 49 year old Billy Wright earlier this year and he's gonna get his ass kicked by a 56 year old tomorrow!

To think there were idiots on this forum who actually thought Welliver was a legit contender tells you everything about how dumb some people are.

Welliver beat 45 yo Cooper, but lost a narrow points decision vs 38 yo Tank Williams, then lost to Fujimoto, which essentially ended his title shot aspirations.

Being a student of Joe Hipp, Chauncey was a far better fight when he remained active and staying fit.
When he became more seriously involved with his wife, he stopped training so seriously and began to take on pounds.

Now, he's simply fighting small venue fights vs other clubbies.

He's looking close to 300lbs again, and while I consider him a friend PERSONALLY, I can't rate him as a contender anymore. That opinion may change should he get this win, and take boxing seriously again. Getting back into the mid 230's where he should be would be a great start.:think

Welliver UD, his last throw of the dice... Unless he's over 280 and then it's Chitsaz UD; he's not stopping Welliver who still has a decent chin...

The Wright vs Welliver fight is one of the worst spectacles I've seen in a boxing ring. But looking at the video in the opening post Hassan Chitsaz is in the same league. Harsh on the 56 year old perhaps, but that's how I see it.

Kind of hope I never get to see this fight. But like a train crash I'll probably be forced to watch it.

Is he still trained joe hipp? His wife doesn't like him training as much or something?

So his wife appreciates a 300+ tub of lard on top of her instead of a more reasonable 230 trying to be in shape athlete?

Sorry, but you and MesserStick, and Chauncy were probably the only ones to rate him as a contender. How can one be considered a contender without EVER having a win over a top 100 opponent? All his silly trinket belts and WBC schmoozing had him fooled into thinking he was actually in line for a title shot.

Ho hum. Welliver is making a fool of himself taking this fight. I admire the 56 year old guy....hell of a story....but look at the guys he's beating. This is a no-win for Welliver, obviously.

I never understood the weight problems, but apparently, even as a gym owner, he's not dropping the weight.:huh

As far as why some of us considered him a legitimate contender.......because he was a volume punching SP with an iron chin.

His power coulda been tweeked with strength and technique. But his conditioning, especially for such a big guy was superb. And he had the balls to go after big fights.

Remember....at the time he was so highly rated, he was chasing fights with Cameron, Tua, and Barrett and was willing to make fights with Monsour, Fury, and Haye.

He was ranked by 3 of the major orgs inside the top 10. He blew by losing consecutive fights, but he's still only 31, and has hope.....IF HE WANTS IT.
