That's some good money to do it for a 3rd time! PAC should take it. He's already proven he can beat JMM two times already even though the 1st fight was a draw by mistake......so i'd take it, but i'm not on the business side of boxing. Arum may have other plans that will send PAC's stock in to anther level.....But the money is definitley right for 130 pound fighters.

You think PAC will pull a "JMM" move and price himeself out? I don't think so.....I think he'll accept or decline the offer. I don't see PAC playing this kind of game with any fight...unless the risk was very serious.

Surely Pac's strength at 135 is even more of a risk for JMM. Do you see JMM wanting to fight this fight again at LW? I agree it would be the only way for it to happen, but best chance for JMM would be at the same weight. Surely?

if this third fight ever happens @135, this current pac-jmm rivalry can be compared favorably to another great trilogy, that of mab-erik. the mab-erik trilogy spanned several years and 3 weight divisions. the first two fights were very close and controversial but the third finally produced a definitive winner.

looks like the pac-jmm rivalry is also following the same path of this great mab-erik trilogy. 3 weight divisions (126,130,135), several years in the making and 2 very close, controversial fights. hopefully, just like mab-erik, the third fight that will cap this trilogy will finally have a definitive result.

Pac would get far more by facing D. Diaz and then the Casamayor-Katsidis winner (and then likely whoever holds the other lightweight belts at the time). Why would he risk becoming a 5 division beltholder and a bigger cumulative payday to take a fight he might very well lose? Plus, after Pac takes belts at LW, it would be an even bigger payday to fight JMM again 2 years from now. Makes sense to me that Arum wouldn't want to take an immediate rematch.

No, his purse for this fight was almost $5 million. It was a 70-30 split and JMM made $1.5 mill, grab a calculator.

With a percentage of sales and tv rights back home he was estimated to make around 8 million.

His purse for the Barrera rematch was $3 million, but he made 5 with everything else added.

No one is going to stop being Pac fans if he loses officially ... take the money. You already fought this guy twice ... the fans are going to be into it ... and hell what do you have to lose? a belt ... if thats the case you fight JMM for a 4th and settle the score ... this would good for the two and good for the smaller division.

It also gives time for the other contenders a chance to get more clout in the process...

6mil is a hard number to pass up ... I can honestly say that it would be stupid to turn down the biggest purse of your career... if the 3rd fight is as good as the first 2 then these guys could be splitting alot of money for the 4th if Maraquez happens to win.

6mil guaranteed ... plus the gate and PPV revenues this guy can make upwards of 10mil when its all said and done ... take the fight.

Yeah I agree. Also dont think an immediate rematch would benefit JMM much either

The smart thing for both fighters is for each of them to fight others to build up the third bout.

Since Manny can't make 130 anymore, let him move up and take David Diaz's WBC lightweight belt. Now in the event of Pac-JMM III occurring, there would actually be something on the line for the casual fan who knows nothing about Ring belts, lineage, etc. (For the record, Casamayor is still Ring champ, and Campbell is the man at 135).

While this is going on, let Juan fight for the newly vacant WBC belt at 130 (since Manny is moving up) or maybe a bout with 135 WBO interim champ Michael Katsidis. That way, both will have belts.

Then let the Marquez camp continue to complain and build enough media steam to get talk about the fight brewing.

Now you have the stage set for a battle at 135 where both fighters will be well-rested, for a belt, with media hype, and enough fan buzz to generate at least $4-6 million for each fighter.

Look, the fact that this fight was still front-page news on ESPN.com for almost 2 days after it happened means that compared to the first fight, the second one meant something to casual sports fans, instead of the usual Filipino, Mexican, and hardcore boxing fans. And as we all know, it is the casual sports fan's dollar that doubles the fighter's purse. Ask De La Hoya how many dollars he's counted in his career from fans who knew nothing about boxing but were fans enough of the person to pony up $59.99 every 6 months to watch him fight.

Give it a year, and Top Rank/Golden Boy/Pacquiao/Marquez will have quite a lucrative circus on their hands. They have to play it smart.

From their two previous fight, how much more buildup does one really need? And how much more does a buildup add anyway to two already great bouts? Ward - Gatti, Corrales - Castillo, Marquez - Vasquez...all went with their bouts right away striking while it was hot.

Its not really much for Pac. He has 2-3 fights left and he wants the big money fights. Fighting B level David Diaz will get him 5mil, only 1mil less than the hell he has to go through with JMM, David Diaz could also lead to Hatton which could give them both a good 10mil+ payday.

Yeah, and besides Ward-Gatti, which was never for a title, how much money did all the fighters you name make in their return bouts?

As much as I hate the top promoters like Top Rank, Golden Boy, and Don King, there's a reason why they get paid to do what they do.
