Very decent card last night IMO. Yafai's fight was a decent test (albeit he was hampered with an arm injury). Callum Smith's opponent was poor but he looked solid. Dickens/Fernandes was entertaining, Fielding looked class at times, Mathews/Crolla was very good and even Chilemba/Bellew was interesting in a way. Only downer for me was the ridiculous bias towards Bellew. At least Johnny Nelson and John Conteh were reasonably honest after. Good show overall :good
I thought it was really good, I watched the lot using the red button By the way bomber that works just by pressing red from sky sports one... You can't rewind thats for sure and i suspect you cant record but I didn't try I honestly don't know what more Hearn could have done. Putting local lads on cards n their home city makes perfect sense. Most of the fighters had appropriate challenges for the stage they are at. Obviously some of the fights were one sided but that's surely always been the case on undercards? Not having a pop, just don't know where you are coming from on this one.
Are you serious Jeff? Dickens fight was decent, so was Yafai. Fielding fight was good, Crolla Matthews was quality. Just because the main event ws **** doesn't mean the show was. Good show IMO.
I really enjoyed last nights show, very evenly matched main and co-event. Dickens and Fielding also in decent fights so we can get a proper look at their potential. And the red button option for the under card was brilliant. The arena was absolutely buzzing pre-Crolla-Matthews and that atmosphere was like a big world title fight - it came across very well over TV and you felt like you were watching big time boxing. I would like to see more shows, 20 shows is nowhere near enough, there is more than enough talent and available fighters to run a big show every couple of weeks, but I dont think one promoter has the capacity to do it and balance quality bills, manage fighters careers well, juggle the politics etc with the belts etc. Sky should bring in another promoter as well, but keep Matchroom as the dominant promoter.
They shouldn't have got rid of Hatton, they should have just offered him less dates. I'd like to see Dave Coldwell get a few dates on Sky, he's putting on competitive, entertaining cards.
I thought the Crolla fight was decent. A lot of people are saying the main event was boring but I enjoyed it. Okay it wasn't action packed, but it was very interesting because it was so close, and both fighters did enough to keep my interest. Chilemba towards the end was landing some beautiful counter shots that have to be appreciated. Competitive fight on paper, which turned out to be competitive in reality. Don't know why people would leave early. Are they boxing fans or what? It was a late main event though. Perhaps some of the crowd thought it would start earlier and they could watch Bellew smash Chilemba to bits, get out of the arena by half 11 and go on the ****. Maybe they left early so they could get in the bars/clubs before it was too late.
Jeff i think last night was a lovely card on paper. I think it had a bit of everything. It's up to the fighters to deliver. I think out of ten the main card was a 7.5/10. I believe people were leaving during the fourth round of the Bellew fight due to how late the fight came on. I had to leave the Wembley Card due to how late it was finishing during the Camacho fight. I think they may need to sort out how they organize the fights on the bill.
I don't think you can realistically improve a card like that much, honestly. I thought it was an excellent night on paper and the only disappointing fight was Bellew/Chilemba, which I really didn't enjoy. If every Hearn card is like that, his monopoly on Sky will be the best thing the channel has ever done regarding boxing.
I don't think you can blame Hearn for Bellew vs Chilemba being a stinker. Sometimes styles don't gel. That was a meaningful and competative fight. There is a clamour to see Burns vs Vasquez/Abril they would be simular fights.
Hatton invested heavily in launching himself into promotion and was building a decent stable. He would be the first promoter I would consider to come in and run shows alongside Matchroom's allocation.
How did they mess Sky around? How much money was Hatton gave to put on the under card for Khan-McCloskey? Did Khan give him the money for 2 or 3 top co-supports? I think not.
Oh, absolutely. Bellew/Chilemba was a great fight on paper but sadly, it didn't live up to expectations.
