And before anyone moans Louis was well known for a 'bum of the month' run too.

Once Wlad hits 26 defences that's the longest title reign in HW history.

If he does 2 per year that's a 3 year reign. If 3 per year a 2 year reign - can he do it?

    Incorrect my friend.

You have to calculate from the byrd fight for a realistic comparison.

Wladimir made 11 defences in a row and been champion for 6 years:patsch

joe louis made 25 in a row and was champion for 12 years

Wladimir has 20 title fights but you can only break the record if you win 26 in a row

Wladimir's is not a streak. It is broken up.

ALSO, more importantly, he has only defended the real, lineal HW title a few times since winning it against Chagaev.

The competition of Louis and Klitschko's careers, and their title reigns, are not comparable. Louis' dominates in every way.

    What's this real lineal title?

Byrd was number 1 in the world. When wlad beat him, he became the number 1 in the world. Since then he's had about 11 defences. I'd call that more than "a few"

Number 1 contender to who? Which hw was ranked above him?

What makes the chag victory any more meaningful than the byrd victory?

The truth is, he's been the best hw on the planet for 6 years now and has defended his title 11 times.

Louis was the best hw on the planet for 12 years (more like 9 in reality) and defended his title 25 although he got a gift against jersey in the first.

A thread like this after watching how aweful Wlad is only a day ago leaves a sour taste in the mouth. I'll leave the arguements on statistics to others but meanwhile I am never watching a Klitschko fight again. I can't even remember a good fight unless it was one where they were getting beaten.

Don't worry I'll show myself out of this thread.

Heavyweight division is seen as weak because we do not have multiple fighters winning world titles. Is this era really that weak or are the Klitschko's just that good? Era's seem to be deemed strong when the world titles are changing hands among several fighters. I know I will have negative responses, but bear this in mind, If Ali won all the world titles and he no one could claim a title from him in 10 years, would he be seen as great or would you also argue that it was a weak error? I feel the Klitschko's are a level above their rivals but that doesn't make their rivals bums
