Tyson by knockout. Ali didn't have anything to hold him off and he had his hands full with the likes of Henry Cooper who nearly had him out of there. Later on, like when Ali fought Foreman, he'd have a better chance because Tyson later on was not the same fighter and was slipping, and I might favor Ali at that point. He seemed to toughen up as he got older.
ah not to disagree with you magoo, but tyson always said himself that his right hook was better. i wonder if he would find some way to utilize that against Ali who was not oft vulnerable to right hands
People are selling Ali short here. He was physically strong enough to old his own with Liston, I see no reason why that wouldn't be the case for Tyson. Tyson was never particularly strong in the clinch, he was often manhandled. But, Ali never faced anyone with that speed, power & accuracy.
A lot is being made about young Cassius' knockdown to Henry Cooper in their first fight but between June '63 and February the following year,Ali had matured substantially. Physically and as a boxer.
Yep, and he was likely maturing after the Liston bout as well. The intriguing question is though, had be matured enough to face a Tyson? The smart money says yes as he passed his litmus test against Liston IMO.
Ali, the GOAT, slices him up anytime they fight from 1964 to 1975 or so. The Tyson adoration among some boxing fans reminds me of the Nolan Ryan admiration among some baseball fans. They were both exciting and entertaining and about domination but neither was in the zip code of GOAT territory.
Nolan Ryan was a great power pitcher, maybe the greatest, but as a pitcher I would say he was very good.
But people on the baseball boards will literally fight you and accuse you of disrespecting him if you disagree that he’s the GOAT. To keep this on topic I do have Tyson ranked ninth on my all time heavyweight list … over a couple of people who beat him LOL …so it was probably a stretch for me to say he’s not in the zip code of GOAT.
