A very tough style for Quarry. Jerry was great when his opponent came at him (especially if they gave him a bit of space to work) as with Lyle and Shavers, but had serious problems on the front foot. He looked useless in both of his fights against Ali. Sticking-and-moving against a VERY short-armed counterpuncher with poor footwork is devastating and few have been able to move and jab like Larry Holmes. I think Larry would cut him up and stop him between the first and fifth rounds.
Quarry is my all time favourite fight and I don't really care for Holmes, but styles make fights. Holmes either out points Quarry or cuts cause a stoppage late.
No contest here. Holmes would not allow quarry to get inside consistently which is exactly what he would have to do to tag holmes. He would batter quarry with jabs and right hands, cutting him up and eventually stopping him inside of 10.
Picnic for Larry. Unless he suffers a flash knockdown, I cannot see him losing a round before busting Quarry up.
Quarry was an excellent contender, but this is not a suitable match for his style and abilities. If Ali could break him down and stop him on cuts after not fighting for over 3 years, a peak and active Holmes would easily do the same.
Big Quarry fan and agree with all the previous posts; one additional thing not mentioned? Jerry didn't have the punch to seriously hurt Larry. This, simply, is not a good matchup to see IMO...
Jerry would make a great effort of it, but Holmes' jab, and overall skill would see him to a 13th round stoppage on cuts.
stylistically this is all wrong for Quarry on every level. He would get cut up by that jab and stopped on cuts.
Have to go along with the consensus. As much as I like Quarry, this is a bad style matchup for him. Holmes by middle round stoppage.
