Rafael was reporting it today. Sounds like it might not get resolved right away. This is terrible and a detail that the organizers overlooked. They should have said a site must be chosen 2 or 3 months before fight date. These are two of the best young American fighters and it's a significant title fight. It's a fight some fans might actually be interested in traveling to. I would. But I got no idea where it's going to be.
I'm sure that in one of the fight camp 360 episodes wards promoter mentions something about ward only signing up to the tournament on the basis that he would have 3 first round fights at home. I'm not sure what his promoter counts as home ie in the USA or In wards home state.
Anywhere but Oakland/CA or Detroit, for the sake of fairness. Put it in Vegas if you must, but is it really that hard to find a 2nd tier casino town to hold this fight in? I still like the idea of Reno. You could even have hometown boy Jesse Brinkley stirring up **** ringside, since he could be an opponent for either fighter if they got eliminated from the S6.
Will Jesse be in training for Bute at that point or in recovery for the beating he will be getting? Home field has been huge so far but Detroit had a very poor showing for the last fight and doesn't deserve consideration.
You folks are completely overreacting. These guys are not from opposite sides of the world like we've been seeing so far in the Super Six. Finding a neutral site is not going to be an issue. Hold the fight in Vegas already, simple fix.
Well, Brinkley doesn't belong anywhere near the same ring as either Andre, but the rest of the post is dead on.
I mentioned Brinkley because I think he'd be a decent comeback fight for Dirrell in particular if he loses to Ward and exits the S6. Brinkley will be a couple weeks from a fight with Bute, so he'll probably be too busy to be around anyway,
Why should it be a neutral venue? Ward has already had two "home" fights; Dirrell only one. Surely it's Dirrell's turn to have a "home" fight? It should be in Detroit.
That makes sense in a tic for tac kind of way, but I'm quite sure they are each focused on this particular fight as it's own entity rather than past fights and venues. The whole tournament thing is something that's much more on the minds of fans than the fighters. Home advantage in this one is also much more insignificant than in the fights in which the two fighters are from opposite sides of the globe.
