According to his manager apparently. That would be awesome. I think it makes sense for any of the parties. Usyk may as well jump right into the deep end of the division by immediately facing one of the two best HWs outside of the Big 3. A win for him would probably be enough to change it to a "Big 4" designation, and would becon a mega fight with one of the other 3. Meanwhile Ortiz or Povetkin would move to the very head of the division outside of the big three if they won. The fight would probably be well promoted and lucrative, so strong consolation for a loss. I'd probably make Usyk a slight favorite against either, but it would ultimately be a very 50/50, fun, and telling fight. I really hope this happens.
Great dangerous fight! A win will give him status and credibility to challenge for the heavyweight crown.
Yeah. And it would really be unprecedented. One of the two greatest CWs ever, and then immediately fighting a highly regarded, top 5 HW in a loaded HW division? Crazy. If he won, it would be significantly better than Holyfields lead up to his own HW title.
If it indeed happened I’m fairly confident he can outbox a shorter Povetkin. Ortiz given his length and boxing ability could be a bit trickier.
Be interesting to see what Povetkin has left in the tank, at his age, and after being KO'd brutally by Joshua. Both good bouts though if one of them comes off.
I agree. It took Holyfield a handful of fights against lower rank contenders before he got to Douglas. What Usyik will be doing is more challenging, plus today’s heavyweight are just so much larger.
I think Usyk would out work old man Ortiz pretty easily. Usyk has one of the best engines I've seen at the higher weights, while Ortiz while skilled, is slow and lacks stamina as you'd expect for a fifty year old. Wide UD for Usyk. Povetkin would be a fascinating fight. Both highly skilled. Usyk better jab, Pov better power. 50:50 that one.
