He didn't beat a lot of guys who would hold titles. He beat Seldon, Holmes, Damiani and Lewis. In an era of multiple title holders he beat four,

Seldon was blown away in one by Bowe and Tyson. He was less of a champion than Bruno. Holmes was 45 and had last held a title ten years previously. Damiani had held the WBO title so I'm being generous listing him. And there's Lewis. I'm not saying Oliver was a one hit wonder but he doesn't have a very deep body of work outside the Lewis win, which amounted to one punch which he never came close to repeating.

What would you say was his second best win?

And I don't know exactly why you think he'd be capable of 15 when he never actually did go 15 rounds. You've taken a leap of faith assuming he could without the evidence to support it. Indulge me and remind me what it is that I'm supposed to know, seeing as I can't think what it is.

He beat Seldon, Maskaev, Akinwande, Holmes, Lewis, and Damiani (6). That’s more than Foreman and let’s not pretend like George wasn’t fighting in multi belt eras.

Second best win is probably against that guy who Foreman avoided, but it was also impressive how he discarded Maskaev (who was undefeated and had beaten Miroshnichenko) and put Akinwande to sleep.

The reason he could go 15 is that he’s among the most bulletproof fighters ever and was still doing ten rounders at about age 50.

Foreman was going 12 with Shannon Briggs at 47, 48 so how he performs at age 50 against unknown opposition gives him no stamina advantage. The thread is peak for peak. That Foreman wasn't fighting in multi-belt eras.

So McCall's second best win is a close points win over the 45 year old Larry Holmes? Blimey. With statements like that in support of Oliver, I think I'll just leave you to it. You're making a far better case for 70s George than I could.

I don't think we're going to achieve any middle ground so probably best we agree to disagree. 'We' being me and three quarters of the other posters who have cast a vote.
