Just watching Eddie" Flame" Gregory as was, scuffling with Marvin Johnson, in 1980, courtesy of " sweet fights.2
I was struck by how many fine 175 pounders there were around then. 1975__________ 1985 saw such good lhvy's as
    Gregory
    Franklin
    Johnson
    Burnett
    Galindez
    Conteh
    Kates
    Hutchins
    Cassidy
    Braxton
    Parlov
    Rossman
    Spinks
    Lopez [the perennial bridesmaid]
    Scott

These guys succeeded a great, dominant champ in Bob Foster, but Foster's competition was not stirling.
75-85, For me this period was the golden age of 175pounders.

Nice list. Strong up and down.

    For me, it's 1920-1930:

    Tunney
    Greb (though really a MW)
    Gibbons
    Loughran
    Rosenbloom
    Norfolk
    Delaney
    Berlenbach
    Slattery
    Siki
    Carpentier
    Braddock
    Stribling
    Gainer
    Olin
    Lomski
    Scozza
    Okun

I think I'd even take the 1930-1940 crew over the class of '75-85, starting with the ferocious black foursome:

    John Henry Lewis
    Tiger Jack Fox
    Al Gainer
    Billy Jones
    Conn
    Rosenbloom
    Slattery
    Lloyd Marshall
    Bettina
    Lesnevich
    Olin
    Christoforidis
    Brouillard
    Harvey
    McAvoy
    Shucco
    Maier
    Scozza

It should just be the 70s as whole.Or 73-80\81.

Ahumada, Fourie, Avelar, Peralta, Bennett worth mentioning too.

I agree. I watched so many of those light-heavy fights on network TV at the time. Things were very competitive, and then Spinks finally came along to clean up and dominate for awhile.

More like 75-81, possibly early '82.

Oh yeah, just watched Johnson-Franklin I, just a sick fight. Been watching a lot of Marvin Johnson lately. That man came to fight, win or lose

And Johnson would've torn Roy Jones Jr's head apart.Literally.

If they had remained consistant with their title winning performances, both Pastrano and Eddie Mustafa would be several tiers higher.

More like 75-83. The last couple of years of Spinks reign there were few good contenders. Marvin Johns on and Eddie Davis were about it.
