Nothing in the modern era? There were two NFL athletes in the 2012 Olympics?:patsch Has there been a summer Olympics since 2012 that I missed?

And one won the silver medal on the relay team at those games.

    Sit down.:hi:

No, to say a rugby player who never even tried out for the Olympics is as fast or faster than Olympians who won track medals and played in the NFL is trolling.

I listed about 50 NFL players who competed in track and field at the Olympics - most of whom won medals - including two from the 2012 Olympics ... including one (James Jett) WHO RAN A FASTER TIME THAN THE FASTEST MAN IN The WORLD CARL LEWIS ... and you can't name ONE SINGLE RUGBY player in the history of that sport to compete in track and field at the Olympics ... let alone win a track medal.

    So who's trolling again?:hi:

For a second time, sit down. You got blown out of the water ... like that fat NFL guy jumped out of a pool of water.

And most NFL players starting playing football as children in flag football. And they play through grade school, high school and college. They just have the ability to excel in MORE THAN ONE SPORT at a time ... because "they're better athletes."

obviously the results are all/mainly based on opinion that cause debates between different fans. NFL fans, Rugby fans, football (the correct one, soccer is a foreigners word) and boxing all have great points but unless they are pitched up against each other then its difficult to gauge an answer. I would suggest alot of 'athletes' who complete in athletics probably have the best engines. But intensity with getting hit to the body i would say rugby players. Taking punches to a face and intensity to the overall body i would say boxing. Being able to sprint and take hits etc for a 'short' amount of time in one go i would say NFL.
NFL players are big and strong and look good but i wouldn't say they are the most athletic, the same with football/soccer/rugby players. without putting them all in the same competition involving each others sports then its too hard to tell.

boxing is still the greatest sport in the world tho. the money these guys earn is totally acceptable compared to the laziness of football/soccer players. 'Most' Boxers during there 10-20 year career put in more time and effort and dedicate themselves more to the craft than any other sport. Soccer players are drinking and eating ****ty meals every week. i know some boxers do but the superstars are the most dedicated athletes in the world

Did you ever actually watch a "soccer" match? Messi isn't among the fastest. Bellerin (from ****nal) did 40 m in 4.42 sec. at age 19. And remember that in soccer you play 90 minutes running about 11 km with only 15 min. break which means you have to have good stamina too.

This guy here is a soccer player, i bet he can bench over 100 kg multiple times. Btw it's pretty unfair to only measure them on attributes that favors NBA and NFL players.
How well do you think they would do on a soccer pitch? Do you think they could last 90 min?
It's just more difficult to become the best soccer players since it's a way more popular sport worldwide. 270 million people play soccer worldwide, most of them dream at some point to become the best. Also soccer has 3.5 billion followers. Soccer is just way more than athletism alone. It's about skill, intelligence, and then also athletism.

Then maybe they should display their skills as often as athletes in other sports do. Guys in the NFL or NBA will play on tv a dozen or more times a year.

Jumping matters too. Guys like Spud Webb and Nate Robinson won dunk contest under 5-10. Robinson would have been a NFL player too. Odell Beckham was heading to be a world class soccer player but plays football. Bo Jackson! So give me a soccer player that can bench 100 kgs 15 times, run a 4.3 40 yard dash, and have a vertical over 40 inches. These are called measurable marks. They are running 5 miles but normally in a 90 minute game with a break and it isn't explosive most of the time in soccer. Back to boxing, most of the guys I listed were small guys that couldnt even imagine being NFL/NBA players but still made bank. Hence, why shouldnt that be a motivating factor for more to fight?

So they run/jog/walk 16 miles a week (a little over 2 miles a day) ... and that makes them the greater athletes than NFL players or Olympic track medalists?

I run/jog/walk 15 miles most weeks, and I'm not the greatest athlete in the world. Trust me.

I'm not saying they aren't great athletes, but this is getting ridiculous.

And what you said about them being more complicated sports is ridiculous.

Bigger, stronger, faster combined with that a more violent game, where you have to survive monstrous collisions 50, 60, 70 or more times a game and get up and still be just as fast, and strong and motivated.

Sorry. Compared to most NFL squads, the Real Madrid team looks like a collection of teen girls.

    :good

cricket involves high level of concentration? try standing in a batters boxing against a 6-6 lefty with a hammer breaking ball and that hits 97 with his fastball.....

I don't know if Brady is considered a great athlete, but Modric is smaller than Gisele Bundchen, Tom Brady's wife.

DC, I had some thoughts while watching those. Even though I don't like football, at least these behemoth's physical athleticism is impressive and entertaining. The soccer vid however left me yawning. Really though, both suck since ball games are for kids. Martial Arts like boxing, mma, or kickboxing are the only sports I think are suitable for an adult man. Stick fighting and jousting also look fun. But if I had to go with a European sport, then I think the world is following the wrong ones. Hurling is way more of a spectacle than soccer or golf.

Also, is it possible that soccer is just as boring as it is because it's not being covered right? The camerawork on the football vid was much better. Maybe if they invested in more cameras, soccer could get more close ups and more dramatic action. Presentation is important. The right camera angles or color commentators can bring an event alive or kill it outright. In a lot of those shots you're watching tiny figures scurry around like ants on the screen or from up in the nosebleed section of the stands when what you want is to be out on the damn field in the midst of things.
