If this tournament was set up at 175 how would you see it playing out? Match 1: Bernard Hopkins vs. Travios Cloud Match 2: Jean Pascal vs. Carl Froch 2 Match 3: Lucian Bute vs. Mikkel Kessler Match 4: Andre Ward vs. Chad Dawson Semi Finals: Winner Match 1 vs Winner Match 2 % 3 vs 4- winners fight each other in the final
My take: Hopkins beats Cloud over 12 rounds to win a UD Pascal and Froch engage in another war but Froch still gets the verdict Bute and Kessler is a close one- i'm gonna go for Bute my controverial MD Dawson and Ward will have a boring match which Ward wins my close UD Hopkins and Froch is a close one but Hopkins uses his ring savy to beat Froch by either MD or SD Ward beats Bute by UD Ward then edges Hopkins in the final thanks to his youth and speed.
Match 1: Hopkins outworks Cloud Match 2: Pascal UD Froch (stronger without draining, and I foresee Froch losing some of his SMW effectiveness if he moves up - some may disagree) Match 3: Interesting. Could (and should) look like Kessler-Calzaghe stylistically; except that Bute is not as good as Calzaghe...but today's Kessler is not as good as the undefeated Kessler was. I'll say the fresher Bute takes a very close decision. Match 4: Ward bullies Dawson incessantly. They may be evenly matched in raw talent and skill (in fact Bad Chad may even have the edge in natural ability and in high-level training/boxing education) but Ward is just too relentless and will severely punish Dawson for all the time he likes to spend in lower gears. Ward fairly wide UD, but not a shutout. Semis: Hopkins vs. Pascal III - Hopkins again. Better man. Bute vs. Ward - damn it. It's just as tough to pick at LHW as it is at SMW. I'll say Ward. Final: Hopkins vs. Ward The headbutt record is SHATTERED. The fight is a DRAW.
I also think Pascal is much more effective at LHW than SMW, he just seems so much stronger and more explosive at LHW even if his stamina still is not good.
No way about Pascal beating Froch at LHW. Froch would come in bang on the weight without draining and would take Pascal to school in the late rounds.
There's no way of knowing for certain how he'll wear 175, which is why I left it open. It's foolish to make assumptions either way. :good It's just my gut feeling that he'll lose effectiveness. I don't know for sure that he will. You don't know for sure that he won't.
BHop vs Travios Cloud = BHop by MD Jean Pascal vs. Carl Froch = Carl Froch UD Lucian Bute vs. Mikkel Kessler = Bute UD Andre Ward vs. Chad Dawson = Ward MD Semi Finals: BHop vs. Carl Froch = Froch by MD/SD Bute vs Ward = Bute by UD/MD/SD FINAL: Froch vs Bute = Bute by MD but @haworths623, you forget Andre Dirrell #1
ROUND 1 Hopkins vs. Cloud Hopkins MD Hopkins complains it's not unanimous, but he held too often for some liking, and did buckle when Cloud connected on a couple huge shots in close rounds. Cloud never really steps on the peddle. Pascal vs. Froch II Froch UD For the large part schools Pascal, making Pascal chase him more than their first slugfest and in doing so capitalizes on Pascal's stamina and part time fighting. Bute vs. Kessler Bute TKO 8 I've often hated on Bute, and prime for prime this result would be flipped, but Kessler has aged and at the moment, is somewhat of an unknown in terms of age/rust/injury affects. So, Bute batters Kessler in the 8th of a back and forth battle. Kessler hurt from body shots, is victim to an early stoppage. Ward vs. Dawson Hmmm... Ward SD In the closest and most dramatic of the first round, both of these guys struggled to adapt to the other, exchanging close rounds with minimal action. Ward pushes deep in the final four rounds to get the nod. ROUND 2 Hopkins vs. Froch Froch UD By this point, it is August of 2012 (Super Six for Froch and Dawson for Hopkins in Oct, Round 1 fights), and Hopkins has come out looking uncharacteristically flat as Froch's precision jabs and straights + ring smarts to pick his spots control the action. Bute vs. Ward Ward UD Ward surprisingly cruises working his jab and lives all day on the inside in this one. Despite being hurt frequently by Bute's step back uppercut to the body, Ward battles through and answers back to the head everytime. Somewhat controversial, as many thought a SD/MD would be more reflective of the damage done to both fighters. FINALS What do you know? The finals of the Super Six! Froch vs. Ward (II; now the rematch of the Super Six 18 months before) Ward UD In a boring chess match, this re-match plays out much the same as the first fight, except this time Froch's already so-so 168 power (for his P4P stature) has not carried, and to Ward this is noticeable. He picks his spots on when to walk through shots to land his own. 116-112 scorecards across the board.
I completely agree. Thought about it myself a while... I just see him still being able to take Pascal, and in this hypothetical tournament, Hopkins as well just because of the styles (yeah "because of the styles" makes me sound like a douche, I know).
Match 1: Bernard Hopkins vs. Travios Cloud: Bernard Hopkins Match 2: Jean Pascal vs. Carl Froch 2: Carl Froch. (I can see this being a Draw, but Froch would advance with a 1-0-1 series lead). Match 3: Lucian Bute vs. Mikkel Kessler: Lucian Bute Match 4: Andre Ward vs. Chad Dawson: Chad Dawson Match 5: Bernard Hopkins vs. Carl Froch: Bernard Hopkins Match 6: Lucian Bute vs. Chad Dawson: Chad Dawson Match 7 (Championship): Bernard Hopkins vs. Chad Dawson: Chad Dawson
I take it you don't have much faith in today's light heavyweight devision. You have four current super middleweights.
