Quarter finals: 1. Juan Francisco Estrada vs. Kazuto Ioka 2. Roman Gonzalez vs. Edgar Sosa 3. Brian Viloria vs. Adrian Hernandez 4. Moruti Mthalane vs. Akira Yaegashi Semi-FInals are winner of 1 vs winner of 2, and 3 vs 4? Who you got. :think
1. Estrada 2. Roman 3. Viloria 4. Mthalane 2. Roman 4. Mthalane 2. Roman --- I don't like your choices. Hernandez and Ioka haven't ventured up to 112 to any degree while even Roman Gonzalez has only taken a few cupcake fights there. Those three don't really belong. I think Roman/Sosa would be surprisingly close and Mthalane/Yaegashi is a great fight, tough to pick. As is the finals match up I came up with of Roman/Mthalane... I think Hernandez would get decisively beaten by all of these men, and I would have to pick against Ioka, whom I love, on the grounds of the weight and having not been proven there.
For me: 1. Estrada SD Ioka 2. Gonzalez late TKO Sosa 3. Viloria mid to late TKO Hernandez 4. Mthalane MD Yaegashi Semi's: 1. Gonzalez narrow UD Estrada 2. Viloria late TKO Mthalane Final 1. Gonzalez mid rounds KO Vilioria.
I appreciate the feedback. The only fight I disagree on is I think the Hawaiian Punch beats Mthlane. Regarding the weights, I think it's less of an issue for the smaller guys. Lets face 1 chesseburger as a Strawweight and you'd be almost a Junior Bantamweight.
I agree I think it would be pretty close but I think Roman's power stops Sosa late in an even fight up until that point. On an unrelated note though, the fact that Sosa has got a number of solid victories (Uicab, Solis, Segura) since losing to Wongjongkam shows how far Pongsaklek fell over night after that fight :-(
Depressing ain't it. IMO this is the most stacked div next to 140. A lot of great potential fights if anyone was watching.
Roman Gonzalez is clearly the best fighter of the eight, i would have him as the winner regardless of whom he faced out of that list.
