Why did everyone forget Vernon Forrest.

I would like to see how Floyd would have performed against the Forrest that beat Mosley.

I would say that Forrest was a much more dangerous opponent than Mayweather. He may not have been as good PFP, but definitely more dangerous.

Do ya'll think Floyd would beat the Vernon Forrest that beat Mosley?

I think that's a bad matchup for Floyd. He's a non puncher counterpuncher up against a tall rangy boxers that doesn't take a lot of risks.

I think Vernon has a distinct advantage in this fight. It was a bad matchup for Shane, but Floyd has never fought tall rangy slick boxer with a good jab.

Nothing close to Vernon Forrest.

 

1. That depends what, exactly, you are reading into it. Mosley fought an excellent fight and looked good doing it. Will that translate into something significant against a vastly superior fighter to Margarito? We shall wait and see.

2. Again, what exactly is your perception of Floyd? He's an undefeated fighter who has dominated the sport of boxing for many years and fought many of the top names.

3. Tough to say. Mosley is an excellent fighter, and I believe the bigger man, physically. Oscar at 154lbs might be comparable, particularly given the conditions Floyd gave up in that match.

7. I believe so. Despite Mayweather's excellent defense and control of distance, he will at some point taste Mosley's power. I believe he has the chin and recuperative powers to weather the storm. I see this one going twelve.

That might be an overstatement, but you are actually likely right about Mosley being the better fighter than De La Hoya - even at 154lbs with all conditions in his favour. I regard Shane Mosley as an extremely dangerous fighter. Floyd will need to be at the absolute top of his game to win this fight.

He has shown an inability to adjust and has trouble with technical fighters with good defense and a stiff jab.

Yes, but I think it's less a concern than what its touted to be. Shane only has one punch knockdown/out power in the most favorable of circumstances and he won't find Floyd with that shot, nor will he sit around looking for it if he's smart.

Yes. Margarito fooled all of us by loading his handwraps. His edge was taken away when Richardson found him out.

Granted, I know everyone who supports Margarito still is gonna say he had power before. I don't doubt that. But the way he went through Johnson, Cintron (2nd) and Cotto suggests to me that he was wrapping illegally at that time.

Mosley basically got a deflated punching bag that night. Both physically and psychologically.

If Mayweather's record tells you anything, it is that he knows how to pick wins. He doesn't take a lot of chances which should raise some eyebrows as to why the fight with Mosley is now made.

Mayweather has stated that he had called Mosley out before and I have no doubts about that. Mayweather is by far the better boxer of the two. He is not the deflated punching bag that Margarito turned out to be. He will establish distance on Mosley and beat him for 12 rounds.

Yes. Mayweather's wins over Castillo (who was arguably as good as Mosley is now in his prime) rank very high. The destruction of Corrales also registers high.

As of recent, I'd say the closest comparison would probably be Zab who is faster than both Mosley and Mayweather. Zab gave Mayweather all kinds of trouble for 4 rounds but Mayweather adjusted. Zab did not. Mosley isn't much different in that respect. If you got his number he will just carry on until the fight is over.

Yes. And he lost to him. DLH isn't the same sort of slick boxer but DLH is a thinker. He makes adjustments in the ring (watch Trinidad, Vargas fights). Mosley could not deal with DLH's adjustments in the second fight but got the nod anyways.

Richardson is a thinking man's trainer. Hopkins is a thinker. I'm not so sure Mosley is. Richardson might be barking orders at him all night and not get anywhere. If I had to pick how it'd go, that would be my prediction.

That he doesn't adjust well to a bad approach. It will cost him in this fight too.

Shouldn't. Pac has the greater achievements as of late and if given the chance to beat Mosley would do it much more decisively than Mayweather.

The simple fact is that Pac isn't in it to just survive. He's in it to dominate.

Coming down in weight at his age and doing what he did to Antonio Margarito who with or without dirty wraps is a very good but not great boxer is pretty impresive. Margrito is a leval below Mosley and Mayweather. I rank him with Miguel Cotto and Joshua Clottey. There very good but they are not going to beat the eletes like Mosley, Floyd Maywather and Manny Pacquiao.
I'm not sure they beat Andre Berto.


2. Is our perception of Mayweather skewed by his perfect record? No. There is a reason he is unbeaten. He has great timing and great speed/quickness. He takes undue critcism for his opoents. I recently scored the first Jose Luis Castlio fight a draw. I plan to rewatch and score it soon. If I see Castlio holding and hitting I'm going to have to change my score. Even if my score stands at even or you fell that he beat Mayweather 39-0-1 or 39-1 is a dam good record for a boxer of any eara to have.

No. However that is because Mosley is one of the best boxers of this eara. Not because Mayweather has not faced good boxers.

No. If Mosley is one of the best boxers of this eara than Mayweather is perhaps the best boxer of this eara. (It could be Roy Jones Jr.)

Very. He has a high boxing IQ and knows what to say in the corner. The same thing can be said of Roger Mayweather who will be in Mayweather's corner.

That boxing is sometimes about more than being the most talented/skilled guy in the ring. That if you don't bring your "A" game don't expet to have your hand raised. He might have trubble with a jab as well.

I think he can. No one is untuchable not even Nicolino Locche. I think Mayweather will handle Mosley's power when he dose git hit.

He should. For the record I rank MAyweather above Pacquiao as I write this. The more I think about it I have a little bit of trubble understanding how when you factor in their skills/abilities and recent results and opoents how Mayweather is not rated above Pacquiao.

Shane struggles with bigger fighters. Generally those with rapier jabs or a good defense like Winky. Shane wont have trouble mauling a relatively small welter like Floyd. Floyd doesnt have the power to stop Shane in his tracks like Forrests right hand did as back then Shane was all offense.
