8 weight divisions vs less 'world' titles: Which would benefit boxing more?

Provide a solution rather than silly comments.

 

Less titles across the board would be great, both at world, regional and national level.

Having four guys able to consider themselves ''world champion'' just sounds daft..... that said it's not as bad as being called ''super'' or ''regular'' champion.

 

Provide a solution dear boy.

 

Leave the weight divisions as they are, maybe drop 1 or 2 of the more insignificant ones. Like someone said earlier, Super-Bantam, is there only like 4 lbs difference between that and Bantam?


Anyways, 1 "World" Champion and drop 1 or 2 weight divisions.

As far as I'm concerned, the belts are a much bigger issue, but in an ideal world a small tidy up of the weights would be great.

 

Ummm....flyweight and Bantamweight? Without straw, light and super?

Fighting Harada, Ruben Olivares, Eder Jofre, all instances from around the same time; showed it wasn't that difficult, if you were good enough.

Don't really mind on weight classes, just so we have a 'the man' at each one. So no ducking, you have to fight for the one title!

 

The only real solution is for some multi-billionaire to buy out one of the sanctioning bodies and actually run it properly like a true governing body. Kind of similar to what the UFC has done in MMA but it would need proper backing from one of the major TV networks and co-operation from all top promoters. Obviously wouldn't happen because top level fights involving the likes of Manny Pacquiao is just printing millions of dollars for someone like Bob Arum.. and there's no way he'd be happy to just give that up.

Boxing would have to go to the dogs before this became a possibility in reality though unfortunately.

 

1 champ or 2 champs with big unifications would do ALOT for boxing. It is so much easier for the media to report and so much easier for the casual fan to quickly point the finger at who matters when there is a fight they are interested in.
