Roy Jones Jr was past his prime against Tarver but he was not shot (at that point anyway). A shot fighter does not outbox Pacquiao. A fighter past his peak and shot are 2 different things. Mike Tyson was shot against Mcbride and arguably Lennox Lewis, Mayweather was not against Pacquiao.
That's because he didn't lose he had the position by default although he didn't look good in either of the Maidana fights. RJJ was P4P #1 going into the Tarver fight as well, it doesn't mean much with older fighters.
RJJ was shot in that fight he couldn't do what RJJ could do. He looked like a completely different fighter only showing flashes of his former self. It was good enough to eek out a win against Tarver but he was done and in the rematch proved it. PBF is no different he was just so great that even a shot PBF could beat Pac but he was no longer PBF that fighter was done.
Mayweather was the betting favourite, although not by a large margin. In my head I could see the faster, longer, better boxer beating the bigger yet slower, worse counterpuncher but watching it live was another experience. After the mid point it just looked sad. Alvarez was so badly gassed.
Just because he wasn't the same as he was in his peak does not mean RJJ was shot. You keeo confusing past prime vs shot. Here's a great example that should make you understand. Povetkin was clearly not the same against Anthony Joshua as he was in his prime. He had slower hand speed, his head movement diminished, and his legs were not the same, slower and weaker even. But he was not shot as he was still able to outbox Joshua for a the majority of the fight until he got stopped and even after the fight he beat Whyte thefor on both occasions he was not shot until he had caught Covid 19 and that messed up his body even more which is why he looked terrible in the Whyte rematch. Shot fighters do not win fights at the elite level. They don't even win fights at world level. The word you're looking for is over the hill. Not shot. Floyd Mayweather was not shot against Pacquiao, he was past his prime, if you wanna say "way past his prime" go for it but he wasn't shot
I know when a fighter is past prime and shot. PBF was passed his prime against Mosley he was faded against Canelo and shot against Pac Berto and Conor. The decline was gradual at first but it was obvious to see PBF had a very high level to fall from than most other fighters. That's why there's so much debate about how much he had left against certain fighters later in his career. A shot fighter can still win fights hell RJJ did against Tarver who was elite and so did PBF.
Masterclass from Floyd Obviously canelo wasn't what he is today, but Floyd was 36 and already slipping athletically The catchweight is something I don't agree with, but it is what it is and canelo was certainly much heavier on the night Not TBE, but Best boxer of his era hands down
That night's floyd (not the best floyd) can beat any version of canelo any day of the week. Twice. At this weight, obviously.
Then it's clear your definition of shot is different from mine. Mayweather was clearly regressed against Pacquiao but he was not shot. Shot fighters do not win fights at the elite level. Roy Jones Jr was arguably shot against Calzaghe but not when he first got KO'd by Tarver, though he was obviously past his prime. Shot is Ray Mercer vs Shannon Briggs, Ali vs Berbick, SRL vs Hector Camacho. But i don't see Mayweather vs Pacquiao being an example of a shot fighter. Because despite the fact that he was past it, he was still an elite fighter
