Well you see, Marciano never cheapened his legacy by fighting too long, therefore Holmes must take responsibility for subsequent losses and we must presume he thought he could win. Spinks vs Marciano? Pleeeese.

Holmes was not well tuned in 1985 when he blew his title by a hair to the well tuned 200 pound Spinks.... Holmes also had an agrivated lower back disc due to physically lifting up the back end of his motorcycle while his mechanic was doing a repair job...

Come the 1986 rematch, Holmes chased and battered the bulky 205 pound Spinks good for 15 rds, but got dicked by a crooked split-decision... Only two blind judges and Spinks truly feels he won that fight.... Judge Joe Cortez scored for Holmes 144 to 141... That card made sense...

Michael Spinks at 6' 2" tall and 200 to 205 pounds would appear to be a huge monster next to prime Marciano...

Spinks had very underrated lateral movement...

Prime Holmes would have stopped Spinks.

i admire your encyclopedic knowledge re Holmes's excuses for losing including the judging conspiracy, but again I say, if you enter the ring you take responsibility for all eventualities. If excuses can be made for losses then fighters would fight forever. there were many fighters who entered the ring injured and still managed to win.

if rocky is an ATG (wich ofcourse he is)
then how the hell isn't holmes ?? his rsume is just as impressive. larry had a wonderful, great, almost perfect jab. like mentioned before what rocky had in determination larry had in the abillity to take a punch and get up..
its plain silly not accepting holmes as an ATG

This cracks me up....discussing 2 ATG's and hearing responses like dominate and easy win (in opposing diresctions no less!)...I just don't see it!

When dealing with ATG's, they are usually considered ATG's for a reason and while a blowout could concievably happen, it should not be the likely logical outcome in most scenerios. A past prime Holmes took tyson 4 decen rounds to dispose of, I don't see why this 80 version would be an easy win for Rocky. Likewise Rocky did good against exceptional boxers ala Charles, moore, and walcott to make me believe that he is not going to be overwhelmed by Holmes boxing ability either.

I agree with the poster (I think Red Cobra??? but not sure) who said 3 possible outcomes 1 & 2 a late stoppage either way....or 3 a close Holmes decision...w/ the 3rd outcome the most likely is kinda how I see this going down. Good fight w/ potential scary moments for each guy, I lean towards a close Holmes decision!

EDIT: It was abraq not Red Cobra, sorry for the misquote!

It depends I guess. I normally look at someone's main body of work e.g. title reign/prime, so put very little weight on early losses or late losses. Some look unfavourably on any poor performances.

What it certainly doesn't mean is you take him from past prime and put him in a H2H just because it was him fighting.
