This year will mark the 80th anniversary of Joe Louis becoming heavyweight champion. Many of us weren't even born in 1937 when 23 year old Joe Louis of Detroit, Michigan became the champion. My granddad who thinks Louis was the greatest ever was only 2 years old when Joe Louis became champion. Many years later, I was almost a year old when Mike Tyson would unify the titles

Detroit happens to be the city that Superman1986 is from. And in Detroit, Joe Louis is still remembered with a statue of his likeness in the Cobo Hall Convention Center in Downtown Detroit. And on Jefferson Avenue in Downtown Detroit, directly across the street from Hart Plaza, there's a giant sculpture of Joe Louis fist. I remember first seeing that fist and statue as a little boy and being fascinated by it, but I didn't know who Joe Louis was at the time.

Lets go back in time to 1937 and see Joe Louis 12 year reign of terror begin
