I'll take Leonard by a late stoppage. This could be a very tense technical fight ala Leonard - Benitez and Curry was that good that he could stay in it with Leonard. I think Leonard's superior durability and killer instinct would take over late in the fight.
The left hook that Curry hit McCory with would deck SRL, as would the left hook SRL hit Boy Green would to Curry. Best that SRL stays outside. SRL by decision.
A toss-up.......... A great fight in a time machine........ I give SRL the slight edge by a **** hair....... Cheers...... MR.BILL
Leonard clearly. Ahead of Curry in virtually every department. Especially knowing what happened to Curry against Honeyghan a year later than the version of Curry chosen. As good as Honeyghan was that night,he could never have done that to Leonard.
Ray was too fast and had too much heart for Curry, who seemed to lack the will to win which would be needed in this type of superfight. Curry was not a superfighter as it turned out, but his skills were great. But when it came to digging deep like Leonard or Hearns did, Curry did not have that ability, which is why he comes up way short in comparison to them.
No way does Ray get decked by Don, maybe stunned somewhat, but if Jung Sok Hwang can floor this guy, so can Ray, and if Leonard gets to Don, it's a wrap.Leonard kayoes 6 Curry.
Ray's retirement is what made Don a WW champion. With no detached retina and subsequent retirement, SRL would probably have made the Cobra his next victim after Roger Stafford. (SRL-Stafford might've been a lot of fun. Roger had pissed Ray off with his mouthiness, and SRL was training with hard focus to administer payback. Nobody figured on Stafford folding up the way he did with Curry.)
Thanks Duo. I'm one of the few that was looking forward to a SRL-Stafford bout. I always wanted to know more on Stafford. Too bad his career never worked out
Leonard proved to have a superior chin to Curry as proven in his rough and tumble bouts with Duran the first time and Hearns. Curry was a precise and spendid fighting machine in 1985 but imploded shortly thereafter. The Cobra was very similar to Leonard in terms of being a physically gifted athlete with great reflexes, eye-hand coordination, that deadly lefthook, etc. But Leonard has intangibles that Curry did not possess like being able to comeback from behind to win and not suffering one-punch kayo defeats. Leonard has his hands full for the first five rounds as the fight is indeed even and up for grabs. A Leonard lefthook turns Curry's legs to jelly in the sixth and Ray goes in for the kill. Good night Cobra. Leonard KO 6
