Ya know, I find it ironic that the ring doc's care more for a fighter's eyes being permanently damaged than his hands, shoulders, or whichever.

A fighter with glass hands like Helenius, or glass skin like Murray, or a glass shoulder like Boz are allowed to go in there and take potential beatings due to their limitations, but as soon as the eye's are mentioned people talk about being blind.

Margarito is in no more real danger of going permanently blind than if he didn't have the cuts. Just because the skin around the eye is scarred doesn't mean his retinas are in danger any moreso than if the skin was not scared. Accumulation of punches can cause retinal damage even when swelling, cuts, etc are not visible.

I just find it funny how when Danny Williams tore his rotator he went on to KO the guy with one arm, then in his next fight, he KTFO Kali Meehan with the first R hand he threw, proving his injury was not an issue in the circumstance.

For instance, IMO, Margs could fight Kirkland next year, and likely win a KO victory, even if his one eye was blurred or squinty to start with, but a slick featherfisted fighter like May would could dodge his shots and bust him up again like Cotto did.

It was a good stoppage, but moreso for the fact that Cotto's accumulative punches were doing more damage to his brain than his eyes and not seeing from one side was an invitation to eat more and more.

 

i'm so pissed that the bar i watched it in last night had a shitty cover band playing instead of turning the volume up for the fight. i couldn't hear anything for the post-fight commentary/interviews.
