Replace a young Foreman with a young Mike Tyson, what would've happened?
As much as I love Ali.. I gotta say... this would be even worse than Tyson vs. Holmes, Ali's career would come to a halt this one night.

What are your thoughts on this fight?

Don't bother with the "Pointless thread", I know it's far from sublime... I think Foreman is vastly overrated

The Tyson you chose was the 20 year old kid who blasted Trevor Berbick for the title. While he was certainly dangerous, I think a 1974 Ali could have gotten a decision here. This was the same Tyson who was taken the distance that year by James Tillis and Mitch green. Of course that doesn't mean much, but if you look at taller boxer types, they typically gave Tyson a little trouble. A 1988 Tyson who iced Spinks might have beaten a 1974 Ali, but Muhammad was too well seasoned for this version of Tyson.

I think Tyson might just have got to Ali around this time and outworked him. Tyson: narrow UD. Can't see the comparison you're making with the Tyson-Holmes fight, the Ali of '74 was markedly less removed from his prime than the Holmes of '88.

    Anytime before Ali wins.

Ali stops him around about the same time he stopped Foreman.

If this fight had eventuated..... it might have been to the Ali schedule.. Not in a foreign country... but in NY.... In Mikes home State ... Ali would have done his utmost to publicise the fight.... the cameras, press, women and adulation would have destroyed Mike before the fight.

'74 Ali is a stationary target with little defence and very little power. '86 Tyson would steamroll over him.

I think it goes longer but the result is the same. I'm going with Ali TKO 12. Tyson would be be psyched out like Foreman was.

I think prime Lewis has a good chance against this Ali too. If Lewis backs Ali up it'd become very interesting plus he wouldn't gas out like Foreman: a blend of strength, boxing ability and power would be a big handful.

70's Ali though great wasn't as fast and evasive as the earlier version, while he'd beat most fighters there are a few who I think take him by the mid-70's.

Have you seen Ali-Frazier II? That Ali moved substantially more and was faster than anyone Tyson ever faced. He was also tougher, smarter and trickier. Tyson liked to know where he had his opponents, but Ali would be throwing right leads when Tyson expected jabs, lure Tyson to punch at the wrong moment and make him look awkward at times.

When Tyson didn't get a grip on an opponent he lost. I don't think this would be very different. Very tough fight for Ali, though.

Depends how Ali fights I suppose. If he trys the rope-a-dope he's out of their, Tyson would not relent and would damage Ali's chin and body more than Foreman with blistering combinations.

If Ali boxes smartly, although he wasn't as quick and evasive as earlier versions I think he may be able to squeek a decision. I think Ali can win but it would be a extremely difficult for him to do so.

Ali woulda spanked him. His mouth alone would've messed up Tyson's game plan.

I feel Tyson would have been beaten by the Ali who boxed bewteen 1960-1975. Tyson would be frustrated, with Ali dancing non-stop, landing quick combinations, pulling back from Tyson's power shots, he'd totally befuddle Tyson.
