Good enough. It took Toney 10 plus rounds of tagging him before he finally landed that perfect hook that stopped him. But chin wouldnt even matter much here, cause Nunn's chin wouldnt be tested by Pavlik anyway. Kelly is WAAY too slow, and one dimensional to have laid a glove on a prime Nunn. Micheal would literally boxes circles around him, and light him up from the outside. See his fight with Frank Tate. Truly a brilliant performance. Nunn was one of the most talented fighters to ever put on the gloves. Its a shame he never fully lived up to how great he could have been. But regardless... he woulda kicked Pavlik's ass badly.
Nunn was anything and everything that you could want in a boxer....He was the late 80s and early 90s version of Ike Ibeauchi for the MW division. Check him out on Youtube....it's a shame he got caught up in drugs and such...he could have been one of the best MW's or SMW's ever.
Dont compare Ike to Nunn. Micheal Nunn at one point was arguably the P4P best. Or at least top 3. What the **** did Ike ever do?
Calm down and be easy....Hear me out...I'm not trying to compare resumes or accomplishments....just what they both had and the potential they both brought and in similar fashion both of their demise. No question Nunn had more substance and depth with regard to their careers...but their talent, skills and ability respectively are comperable.
I think the key to beating Pavlik seems to be footwork, handspeed and strength. I don't think many middle-weights have those attributes in sufficient quantity to hang with Pavlik, let alone beat him. However, Nunn has very slippery and intelligent footwork, brilliant handspeed and power, and had a powerful wiry frame. Pavlik lacks either the power to KO Nunn with one punch or the skill to land on him frequentely; I also think that Nunn's southpaw stance would give a lot of bother to someone as left-jab orientated as Pavlik. Nunn by UD or possible TKO, depending on whether "Boring Nunn" or "Psycho Nunn" turns up. Hardly an intimidating bloke, though- This content is protected (Courtesy of Boxrec; go there if you haven't already) - which shows that brilliant athleticism is better than having a mean stare.
