Floyd - Garcia would do much better PPV numbers than...

    Floyd - Lucas
    Floyd - TC

And about equal to Floyd - Broner/Bradley.

How do you figure? Counting on people wanting to see Garcia lose?

But a lot of, if not most fans already just want to see Floyd lose. Not sure having 2 disliked fighters would really sell a card. Floyd PPVs do best when he is up against a guy that people want to like and root for against him. Especially if fans can be convinced the opponent has a shot, like Canelo and Manny.

I dont see anyone thinking Garcia has a shot, or many particularly wanting to root for him. (on that note I think you might be right about Broner doing roughly equal numbers)

Yes, many people dislike Danny. But there are 5 million Puerto Rican-Americans who love him passionately. For all the love that Lucas gets, he only has 200K Argentine Americans to back him up. Go look at the history of what Argentinians have brought to PPV boxing sales in the US, it's almost non existent. There are 0 instances of an Argentinian fighter headlining a PPV card as the A-side and on the few occasions that an Argentinian fighter has been the B-side they have brought next to nothing to the table. For example, Cotto did only 25,000 more PPV buys against Sergio than he did against f*cking shot to bits Mayorga.

As for TC? It's closeish in PPV sales for a Floyd fight but I feel DSG certainly still has more of a brand at this point, though TC is clearly the vastly superior fighter.

I wish I had a better pulse of the PR community. Judging from what I have seen, and crowd reactions.. I was under the impression the PR folks were not particularly happy with Garcia. Since PR has a lot actual boxing fans relatively speaking, they are going to be more educated.

Regarding Matty, I just think general PPV-spending boxing fans could get more excited about the possibility of Matty really cracking Floyd with one. TC does not bring a huge fanbase, but would be marketable as a likable underdog with credential. (IMO, its important to distinguish a Floyd fight from a regular bout, because it actually gets marketing and media - a chance to sell an opponent - that other fights dont have. Especially if the opponent speaks English and marketing people to get media dates.)

Thats my thinking anyhow. Maybe you are right though, and the PR crowd would back Garcia enthusiastically.

I agree that DSG is in no way as universally beloved by the PR community as Cotto or Tito were. But if you give a national fan base the opportunity to get behind their man against Floyd I tend to think they will rally to the cause.

You may well be right though! :good
