I take Foreman. I don't think Mike could have gotten to the body due to George's crab defense. If you take that out of the equation, Tyson has very little chance of setting up his uppercut or straight right hand. If George is able to turn it into a battle of attrition, I think he wins by knockout in the late rounds. Also, the post 87 Foreman was a more relaxed fighter who would not freeze up against Tyson like many others did.
OMG Old Foreman KO1!!! :rofl:rofl Look @ what he did to Qawi And Cooney!!:admin AND there was that unknown journeyman Old Foreman KO'd who looked like "Tinkerbell" Tyson, stylewise And sizewise, so if anyone can help a Hook out, i would be v.grateful, cos there was a youtube video of teh fight i am talking about, just i dunno who it was Big G was fighting!! :think:huh:? Foreman Hooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooook!:rasta
Frankly I think Old Foreman benefitted greatly from this fight not happening; after all he actually turned down 3 offers from the Tyson camp. 1st was for $5,000,000.00 2nd was for $20,000,000.00 3rd was an $80,000,000.00 purse to be split evenly. If Foreman lasted more than 5 rounds I'd be surprised. Really surprised. Tyson KO inside 4 rounds.
I was being generous to the Foreman fan club. And I absolutely agree that Foreman's legacy benefitted greatly from not facing Tyson. I was in my early teens when Big George was making all that noise. I was a big fan of his, on equal terms with Tyson, but back then it would have been a painful sight seeing Foreman getting battered around the ring. And we thought he looked bad after the Stewart fight:deal
The OP said 1991, that was when he KO'd Rodrigues in 2, same like Holyfield did. George went the distance with Holyfield, something Tyson couldn't do twice. No one ever dropped George in his comeback. He got nailed solid by some hard punchers like Morrison, Holyfield, Moorer, Stewert, Cooney. I don't see Tyson putting old George down. He'd go right at Foreman and George would eat up fighters who came right to him. Chin, will, size and power would make Tyson quite uncomfortable in there.
If Tyson hadn't fought Holmes and a mythical match up was done, some might even claim that if Shavers couldn't stop Larry Holmes then there is no way that Tyson could. Styles make fights so Foreman lasting the distance with Holyfield has no bearing on how a Tyson Foreman fight would look like. After all, how did Big George fare against Alex Stewart? How did Alex fare against Tyson? I'm surprised that this match up has been legitimized. I always felt that it would have been a novelty fight.
At one point in the Stewart fight I thought George's corner was going to throw in the towel. He looked finished.
I could possibly believe the first offer but you've got to be kidding with the last 2. Foreman was on a nice streak at that point but I don't think he was relevant enough to justify that kind of money. Now had he beaten Holy...
I am glad im not the only one who thinks Tyson would smoke foreman in 91...I've heard this discussion on other forums and everyone talks about how Tyson would run right in to Georges bombs alla frazier. I love big george as much as the next guy but thats ridiculous.
That's not a fair example. I remember reading an article when Foreman was questioned about how Holmes, who was Foreman's age on his comeback when he fought Tyson and look at what happened to him. George responded with 'They went and dug Larry Holmes out of the graveyard' and how George had been fighting regularly and winning since.
Foreman couldnt even beat poor man versions of Tyson, but Foreman would beat Tyson? Foreman would get crushed. He was way too slow for Tyson and way too easy to hit. Foreman would have gotten knocked out, thats why he didnt take the fight when it was offered to him on several occassions. He used Tyson and the media to promote himself but he never intended on fighting him.
